June 5, 201411 yr I was curious if anyone here uses either or both with X-Plane? I know there are plenty using these for FSX/P3D. But haven't really heard too much from the X-Plane community and would like your thoughts. I was planning on purchasing PFPX but after already spending almost $100 on other X-Plane add-ons, I'm kind of hesitant now. I heard excellent reviews from both. Since I fly mostly the 777 from FlightFactor/Ramzzes, I want to be sure the flightplan that it exports will load into the FMS. I want to be able to just input departing and arrival airports and have the app formulate a complete flight plan for me including which runways I need to depart and arrive to/from. That way I can just load the flightplan into the co route on the fms, hit execute, take off and be on my way. I'm a casual flyer and and want something as automated as I can get. I like to take screenshots and check out the scenery while I fly, so the less I have to interact with the plane's controls, the better. Can either of these flight planners do this for me? I've watched numerous tutorials on youtube but still don't really see how you can quickly make a flightplan for the casual flyer. I don't want to use SID/STAR either, since I do not fly on vatsim/online and I don't use ATC. It would have to give me waypoints without any vectors. June 6, 201411 yr You can always buy a justplanes bluray video and watch it without interacting with plane's controls. Joke. I think simbrief cannot export flightplan to that Boeing 777 you fly in X-plane, but you can go to their forums and ask if it's possible to add such a function. June 6, 201411 yr I use PFPX pretty much exclusively as my flight planner these days for both FSX and X-Plane. It work's great and there are a large number of aircraft templates that can be used and customised for any situation. I also use sources such as SkyVector or FlightAware for double-checking routes but PFPX will normally generate a very realistic one for you taking winds and airway restrictions into account. The aircraft I use it for mainly in X-Plane are the FlyJSim 727 (my current vintage favorite) and the FF 757. It will give you really accurate fuel calculations if you plan everything correctly. This is probably one of my most valued add-ons and definitely worth the money. Can't recommend it enough! Michael R
June 6, 201411 yr Author FlyBoyMikey, will I be able to quickly create a flight plan by just entering departing and arrival airport though? I don't want to mess with SID/STAR and vectors since I don't use ATC or fly online. I want a quick generation so that I can load it up into the FMS and just execute and have the plane fly and land the route for me. And also will it correctly figure out the departing and arrival runways with that will work with the corresponding 1st and last waypoint before i reach i touchdown? That was one problem I always had when planning on my own. The plane would completely miss the approach because of a wrong waypoint that wasn't lining up to the runway. June 6, 201411 yr FlyBoyMikey, will I be able to quickly create a flight plan by just entering departing and arrival airport though? If you populate the departing and arriving airports fields on a new flight plan with their ICAO you can then move down to the 'route' section and tell it to auto-generate a route for you using airways. This is really handy if you just want to quickly generate a realistic route for a quick and dirty flight and can't find any on FlightAware etc. You don't have to build a full flight plan if you don't want to for this. I don't want to mess with SID/STAR and vectors since I don't use ATC or fly online. It will usually automatically select SID/STARs and include them in the route based on departing/arriving runways and transitioning fixes in the route so you can just quickly enter those into the FMC if you don't use charts. And also will it correctly figure out the departing and arrival runways with that will work with the corresponding 1st and last waypoint before i reach i touchdown? Yes it always tries to automatically select runways for departure/arrival based on METAR (if you have a weather source enabled such as ActiveSky or online NOAA) and maybe sometimes even NOTAM's which it also includes in the final generated flight plan. That was one problem I always had when planning on my own. The plane would completely miss the approach because of a wrong waypoint that wasn't lining up to the runway. It's always a good idea to still check through the whole route by selecting plan mode on ND and cycling through the LEGS page in the FMC to make sure everything lines up nicely with no discontinuities or off-track waypoints. PFPX uses a full AIRAC database just like the FMC's in most add-on aircraft which I download from Navigraph. You don't really have to keep it that up to date though unless you fly online but helps to keep it in line with what your aircraft have so there are no mismatches in case airways or SID/STARs change. June 6, 201411 yr Author Does PFPX allow you to export a flight plan to use with FF/Ramzess 777 Worldliner in X-Plane though? Since that's what I use primarily. June 6, 201411 yr Does PFPX allow you to export a flight plan to use with FF/Ramzess 777 Worldliner in X-Plane though? Since that's what I use primarily.Doesn't the 777 use the AXE import format now?If so it should be easy to point PFPX at the right folder. EFASS Is also great as a flight/fuel planner, and I find it easier to use than PFPX which has too many options and variables for my taste. It will export many popular formats. Unlike to two above, Simbrief is useful for fuel planning but does not create a route for you; it requires one to be copy/pasted on the planning screen.
June 6, 201411 yr +1 on EFASS. It now has Rmzs777 flight plan export availability ..and a weather engine specially dedicated for x-plane 10.. and efb.. and online traffic.. and custom routing.. and it's free
June 6, 201411 yr Author Really? Definitely need to check out EFASS now, got a link to it? June 6, 201411 yr Normally you don't have to pay, but you get a nag message which last 2-3 mins. Still free last time I checked.
