FSX automatic quality adjusting.

Featured Replies

Hey guys, i've been playing FSX for like 2 months now and i've found a couple of bugs.

I am using "Flight Simulator X Deluxe (RTM)". I don't have any service packs because SP1 really mess up the game and with SP2 it won't even launch.I am not using any addons except "Carenado Cessna C172".

Now the main problem:

I normally run the game, start flight and my scenery looks like this :

uvwYFdD.png

Pretty normal i think.Frame rates are around 20.

But then after one or two minutes the game starts look like this:

okcsOCT.png

WHY ? It looks like the FSX is changing "Global texture resolution" in graphics tab.But the weird thing is frame rates are still the same!

It also affect Virtual Cockpit ,but because i mostly fly addon Cessna which probably don't have lower quality textures it stays the same.

Maybe you want to see my computer specs (REALLY bad but i can get fairly high FPS from it (at least fairly high for me))

And my settings :

Thanks for any help :)

It appears that you could be short on memory......0.98 GB  is not enough.......I have 12 GB and only get 20 to 30 frames per second with a lot of addons, 5 to be exact, running at the same time...........

You should definitely have SP1 and SP2 installed, they fix all sorts of things and improve performance.

What's happening is that your CPU can't keep up with everything and so it loads a lower resolution mip-map of the ground textures since those require less memory and processing power. The "Global Texture Resolution" slider controls how large the largest texture FSX can load is, at maximum it is 1024x1024, no impact on your ground textures. You'll still need to turn down your settings, I'd disable AI altogether since it is very heavy on the CPU.

Beyond that... FSX running on a low speed Pentium D using integrated graphics with 1GB of memory of Windows XP is just a shaky prospect in general.

I already said that if i install SP1 it break a lot of things , like my windows disappear, there is a thin cloud layer somewhere above 8,000 ft , advanced animations don't work at all.And if i install SP2 i'll get an error saying my graphics card is not compatible bla bla bla ...

And thanks for advice to disable AI :)

Then you already have some sort of problem.

Your machine is really not up to running FSX, FS9 would be a better choice.

You will need to run FSX with all settings turned down and to be honest a well set up FS9 will look just as good as that.

+1 and even FS9 would probably not run very well on that hardware.  It simply is not up to the task. Even with today's best hardware we still have to compromise on slider settings with FSX.

Most XP users have a 32bit version of it, effectively lowering the VAS limit from 4 GB to something like 3 GB (+/-). For FSX to run properly, you definitely need a completely new rig, including a 64bit OS! (W7 preferably.)

What happened to AVSIM

Congrats to the OP. I thought my spec was one of the very lowest on Avsim, but I wouldn't even consider trying to run it on yours  :Shocked: , and I'm hoping to upgrade by the end of the year. You've probably made some wise choices with your sliders, with the exception of AI traffic, as has already been mentioned. I run mine at max 25%, and I think I only get away with that because I use World of AI, with the default FSX traffic disabled. Having said that, check out the tweaking guides by people like NickN and Kostas, you might get a pleasant surprise about how little effect some of the sliders have on performance, and a shock at one or two of the others...

The good news is that, if budget is an issue, then given the compromises you seem to be prepared to make, you could get much improved performance for not that much outlay. Regarding 32-bit v 64-bit, definitely go 64-bit, otherwise your video memory is eating into your available RAM, no matter how much you have installed. I went from a 32-bit OS to 64-bit on the same hardware, and I haven't looked back, or had an OOM error.

For what it's worth, my rig is 2.4 Ghz Quad core Intel, 4 GB RAM, 1GB nVidia , and I use default scenery, UTX/GEX and Orbx. I can usually keep frame rates above 20 fps over default and UTX/GEX scenery (sometimes much higher, depending on aircraft, weather etc). I can even run Orbx scenery well, with some aircraft e.g. SibWings (anything), Aerosoft Twotter, Aerosoft Beaver, A2A Cub. Mind you, I won't be buying anything by PMDG anytime soon.  :lol:

In short, should you upgrade? Absolutely. Should you buy the best rig you can afford? Absolutely. Should you give up if you can't afford the kind of high-end systems you see a lot of people on here using? Absolutely not.

Oh, and regarding swapping FSX with FS9, I'd take that advice seriously. I've even considered it myself on more than one occasion. But even with that, plan for an upgrade. It shouldn't be difficult. I bet people are throwing away better spec'd PCs than you're using right now (and I mean that as an encouragement, not a put-down).

Best of luck.

I got you beat by 2 hoots and a holler!  2GHz. AMD processor and 2 GB memory.  I'm

running FSX with only freeware addons but getting 30-38 FPS at altitude

in the 2D cockpit.  Only stutters come when I'm near KLAX or KJFK.

AI slider for airlines is set to 50% and GA at 15%.  No light bloom, lens flare,

or aircraft labels.  Global texture maxed, Auto Gen set to normal.

Most other sliders set to med/med. high.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱

I salute you, sir.  :im Not Worthy:

Maybe we should have a "Hardware bottom-feeders" forum.   :lol:

Hey , i'm back ! And guess what ! I've fixed it !! I am so happy now :D

I put the following tweaks in the FSX.cfg:

HIGHMEMFIX=1 (graphics section)

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 (display section)

FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 (main section)

Here is a screenshot of how it looks now over grand canyon with the same settings as before and over 10 minutes of playing :

s9pKGb5.png

I had about 25-30 FPS and no blurry textures at all !

At San Francisco Intl. Airport in gate with major thunderstorm ,with default 737, scenery complexity set at DENSE , and airlines slider set at 5% i can get 15 FPS !

So it's solved for me.

Glad it's fixed but really all you added was highmemfix. The other 2 entries are stock default settings that are usually hidden from the cfg when you create a new one. By default TBM is a 40 and FFFT is .33. They are there by default but won't show in the cfg unless you add it.
