I enjoy Flight Simulation ... the great debate

Featured Replies

I just want to ensure that everyone knows, you'll never ever ever be sued or allowed to be sued because you "enjoyed" flight simulation software (in the US and most of the free world anyway).  Perhaps when Stalin or ###### come back to life we might need to start to worry about that, but in the meantime just enjoy what you've got and whatever is coming in the future.

As have many others, I've enjoyed and continue to enjoy the various Flight Simulations platforms.  I'm currently focusing much of my energy to P3D V2.x but the flight simulation market is very much alive and kicking just as the desktop PC isn't dead (it's actually started to grow again in 2014).  The use of these various platforms going all the way back to 1980's has finally motivated me to get my PPL (some 30+ years later).

For single platform folks, the best way for you to promote your platform of choice is to show what's good about it and what you like.  I know eventually comparisons are made and the great debate starts and some completely digress and get locked ... BUT before moving a thread that way, sell what is good about YOUR choice, not what is bad about someone else's choice.

I realize that some try to corral developers into spending the energy and time on "their" platform of choice by.  Heck even developers of 3rd party content do their own form of herding the masses in a platform direction based on their next "big project".  The best way to corral is with a positive position, not a negative one.  But most importantly, the best opinion of products is YOUR OWN ... work all sides of the fence, get demos, etc. ... the best judge is yourself and having the actual experience in all that interests you.

Not my entire flight simulation collection, but a small snapshot of what I enjoy, enjoyed, and continue to enjoy:

Have you hugged your significant other or someone you like today?   :Peace:

Try to enjoy the hobby, it really is a lot of fun and a great learning tool.

Cheers, Rob.

P.S. Tom, if this thread goes the direction of a EULA, please consider just removing those comments that take it in that direction rather than Locking out the entire thread, some leverage that just to get a thread locked, which is a real shame.

Right now I only have FSX, but it's not because I think it's somehow 'superior' to everything else out there. I've managed to get FSX working well on my machine and right now most of what I like to fly is available for FSX only.  Down the line I hope to get beefier hardware, and at that time I'll give P3D and X-Plane a try.  For now, FSX does what I want it to do.

As for flight simulation in general, the older I get the harder it is for me to indulge in 'passive' entertainment like television and movies.  I've got to be an active participant and have my mind engaged, and in this hobby there's always something to learn.  I would have lost interest a long time ago if that weren't the case.

An EXCELLENT post Rob. Common sense and facts spelt out in a clear, concise and logical manner.

I hope ALL of your observations and suggestions are taken on board.

Variety is the spice of life.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

I took my FS collection into the kitchen, hugged my wife, and got tomato ketchup on one of the XP10 disks.

FSX is hard to beat. A lot of excitement recently surrounded the possibility of MS making some kind of announcement concerning the if, how, and when, of progressing FSX to the next level. LM have done an amazing job of moving ESP onto DX11, and there's more to come. XP is always progressing in some way. The future is uncertain.

What announcement? What did I miss?

Good work Rob..

All those flight sims are hungry ... gotta keep feed'em with SSDs.

Just finished a wonderful flight from KMRY to KOAK ... had an engine fire in the Twotter and had to land with one engine down.  What a great flight!

I think flight simulation future is very certain, lots of passion out there.

Cheers, Rob.

If the sim world were to die this very moment I would be very happy to live out my simming life with FSX the way I have it configured now

Any future development of FSX would just be a Bonus.

Sadly that will never happen as Microsoft has given up on flight sim. We are still spoiled for choice though we the current sims on the market and that includes fsx.

Even XP 10 is starting to look good now the effort is being put in to the eye candy.

Nice one, Rob. A very subtle way of pointing out what most of us already know, but a few find hard to accept.
