July 29, 201411 yr I know exactly what you mean, pe11e. I have had thoughts like that recently when trying to work out how much money I have spent on addons over the past few years. I worry that I will feel that a huge amount of money has been wasted if I suddenly lose interest in flight simulation! I worry that I will feel that a huge amount of money has been wasted if I suddenly lose interest in flight simulation! The majority of us invested a fair amount of money at least on add ons, with a strong feeling that you are investing money on a car from a junkyard (FSX). It can drive smooth and be reliable, but it needs lot of time to tweak it, and a lot of money to enjoy the ride. I guess we all could call ourselves "restoration junkies". Pick the car from the junkyard (FSX), buy new steering wheel (yoke), start tweaking the engine (fsx.cfg) and end with adding various new and fancy bits & pieces (fax add ons) to fully enjoy it. But at the end you know what? Screw the money, it comes like a turtle and goes like a rabbit that's or sure, but the satisfaction is most important. And after all, there is always a thing called next month salary. At this time, I only can't imagine how simming will look like in few years ahead. I'm not counting neither on FSX, X-plane or P3D, all three titles have some serious issues at this point. My bet goes to upcoming more complete AeroflyFS, but with FSX quality add ons, that would be simming heaven above all heavens. July 29, 201411 yr Remember, you don't spend money despite the fear of regretting it tomorrow, but because of the joy spending it brings to you today. What happened to AVSIM

July 29, 201411 yr I do all three! Well....maybe just a little bit of guilt for you... True pleasure is getting a full set of Chief Pilot Manuals dropped off on your porch. Robert Yunque PilotEdge Ratings = CAT-11 (2016-09-13) I-11 (2016-10-23) V-3 (2016-08-01)

I would like to try that but they are expensive and I worry they will end up gathering dust next to my learn Spanish manual and my "just 5 easy payments" home rowing machine ZORAN

July 29, 201411 yr You WILL get bored with flight simming at some point. That's inevitable but it's also OK. You walk away for awhile until you get the itch to fly again. I've been simming since the late '80's. Every once in a while I have to put it down but it's usually for never more than a few weeks and then I'm back at it again. You're stressing too much. It's just a hobby, enjoy it. Fishing, on the other hand, is a completely different matter.
July 30, 201411 yr Usually during the school year I will get very bored and limit myself to weekend-only flying (Friday included). If I were to do short flights, I would get bored very quickly. We'll see how this school year goes and if I don't limit myself to weekends only it'll probably be only once a week beyond that. Regards, Jeremy Chesney
July 30, 201411 yr Hey, this is your hobby. If you played golf, like so many family men do, you would be spending thousands on golf clubs and fees, if you were a fisherman, you would be spending thousands on boats, rods and reels. I don't feel there is any guilt on spending a few Benjamins on my favorite hobby and mental escape. Robert, this is so true....so true. well said :-) Best, Jeff

I love reading them. I started pouring myself into the 777 Flight Training Manual as soon as they came. Robert, this is so true....so true. well said :-) Best, Jeff Thank you Jeff. Flight simming is a wonderful and effective escape. I love what I do for a living, but everyone needs to shift to neutral, and flight simming is my shift to neutral where I absolutely don't think about anything else but getting from point A to point B in a somewhat realistic manner. It's a lot of enjoyment that is worth a lot to me. Robert Yunque PilotEdge Ratings = CAT-11 (2016-09-13) I-11 (2016-10-23) V-3 (2016-08-01)

It is also an effective way to explain simming to ignorant people. My one and only motto is "live balanced!", means if you only work, simming or whatever single activity for a whole day, it will kill you. When I say "kill you" I mean it will kill your personality, energy, mood. So, sleep, go to work, play with kids after the work, spend time with your wife, fire up FSX from 9-10pm, and enjoy. 4 activities that will make your life more complete. I'm talking too much right now, no? Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.
