September 4, 201411 yr Commercial Member I tried *0.75, frames still tanked to 14-15 on my test scenario where they were tanking to 7-8 untouched, sometimes less. I set it to *0.65 now but haven't tried the flight again yet (I'm getting really good at flying between KCOE and KBOI on 8/23/14 at 17:00 local with ASN, lol)

September 5, 201411 yr lol Jim. Let us know what 65% like please. No changing mine yet I love the look to much. David Murden. September 5, 201411 yr Won't the cloud bottoms clip on the ground if the value is higher than 0.5 though?
September 5, 201411 yr Then again I only have a GTX 680 4GB which is getting hopelessly outmatched by the advances being made with P3d. "Ouch, my 2GB GTX680 heard that!!!". Seriously, let us all know if updating beyond your present CPU and GPU, with FPS and general performance in mind, was worth the expense outlay. I have a 5 year old system, that gives me pretty much 30 FPS on average, and so wonder what the benefit-to-cost would actually be.... Please...let us know. I'll be looking for a post from you on post-build-purchase!!!
September 5, 201411 yr My system runs everything at 25-35 fps, except around the real big metro airports like KJFK, where it falls to 12-15 fps. It is still "flyable" under those conditions. Of course, I don't have all the sliders maxed out either. No HDR, no terrain shadows (only clouds, interior and exterior shadows on) and autogens only set to dense. I'm using the complete ORBX suite, FS Global 2010 mesh, TrackIR, ASN and MyTraffic Pro 5.4.

I'm getting around your same FPS range, with most sliders and features on, or nearly max'ed, and have never owned a version of Tracker IR. I am in fact looking at version 5 with the headphone clip. Have not pulled the trigger, but the finger is on it, lol. If you do decide to upgrade...again, please let us all know from what-to-what...and how did it work out for advancing your performance FPS/micro-stutter-free 'n all. I have been very happy with my present system and v2.3, but am always open to something new, if the R.O.I. is truly there.
September 5, 201411 yr TrackIR is a little pricey, but it's worth every penny. Unless you are running three really big monitors, there is no other way to get the full impact of P3d except with TrackIR.
September 5, 201411 yr I found that upgrading from a 4GB 680 to a 3 GB 780ti got me better performance in clouds, in urban areas and at add-on airports. I try to be judicious with sliders - autogen at normal, some shadows, cloud coverage density at medium. Using TrackIR 5, FTX Global and Vector, MyTraffic 5.4b set at 20 percent. September 5, 201411 yr (I'm getting really good at flying between KCOE and KBOI on 8/23/14 at 17:00 local with ASN, lol) So I set this flight up ... wow, that was some turbulent weather ... but very enjoyable. I was kinda surprised KCOE was so well done ... at first I was thinking ... how can this be in France? haha -- I must admit, I never thought Idaho was so scenic. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Cheers, Rob.
September 6, 201411 yr TrackIR is a little pricey, but it's worth every penny. Unless you are running three really big monitors, there is no other way to get the full impact of P3d except with TrackIR. Thanks for that advice. I will certainly keep that opinion in mind! Mitch 5.4b set at 20 percent. You can bring this up to 5.4c for free....just go to the MyTraffic support forums. You'll have a better A.I. experience going through those clouds....
September 6, 201411 yr Ok...is the following happening with anybody else?: Since installing and running v2.3, I have always had the cloud density setting at MEDIUM. If I went beyond that, I was of course affected by the FPS kill-off. Near Detroit, it is now with some thunder-showers. I took off with Medium in play. I had between 18-30 FPS, constantly moving in that target. I have the 'fix' only in that I adjusted the line for 0.5 on both flags within the line affected. I did not touch the other one to Volume. Well, I pushed up the Cloud Density slider to High, with greater cloud coverage now depicted, and not one difference in the FPS range of 18-30 FPS. I then pushed it up to Maximum and to my utter amazement, the SAME range, not one FPS below 18....and the same max or around 30'ish which is to be expected as I have Precision X set to 33 FPS, externally, with Unlimited within P3D in play. Each of the two bumps up from Medium, increased the graphics of clouds, but with no FPS hit whatsoever...geez.... So..I will obviously leave it at Maximum, but I did follow the advice of Arwen, through her reading from Hi-Fi, to set the ASN--- P3D Cloud off-set to '0', if you have set the flags to 0.5 for the math equation.I also in ASN do not have the Force Broken to 7/8, as I like cloud variation, over full clutter. So, the question is asked...has anybody else cranked their Cloud Density slider higher, or to Max...with no change, or 'cost' in FPS? Just wondering..... http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5T Comparison shot with ASN set to Force Broken to 7/8: http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t50 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5F Mitch
September 6, 201411 yr Ok...is the following happening with anybody else?: Looks like that I experience the same effect. That's a good catch and guess what? I can run it even with 10 cloud layers in ASN. Spirit
September 6, 201411 yr Looks like that I experience the same effect. That's a good catch and guess what? I can run it even with 10 cloud layers in ASN. Spirit 10...seriously???? Wow...I'll try that right now. I'm now at 13,000 feet AGL (had to ascend, getting banged around with the lightning and thunder storm) and this is just taken at Maximum with 5 layers: http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5J Post Edit: "This is totally NUTS! Spirit, I took this with the adjustment in ASN to 10 layers, from 5...look at this...look at my FPS...no hit....so..staying with 10 for the layer, and will experiment in different scenarios over the next few days.... http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5S http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5m http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5y http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5C http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5O http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5V Post Edit 2: Final shot on my way to Toronto....now, amazing cloud performance: ASN 70 miles out, P3D Cloud Base Offset to '0', Layers at 10 a la' Spirit_66 (smile!), and Beau's 0.5 edit (no edit to Volume).......and still look at the FPS! Wow.... http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/t5p Thanks for your tip to you using now a layer of 10. I never would have thought to go that high....it just was NEVER possible before....(slide-show).
