Clouds kill FPS in 2.3

Featured Replies

LM has deleted the thread on their forums, I guess too many numb skulls arguing over their 1000 dollar video card. I really wanted to follow the dev's progress on this issue.

Yup - the usual rabble rousing suspects killed it for everyone. Ever wonder why they aren't on the beta team...?

Yup - the usual rabble rousing suspects killed it for everyone. Ever wonder why they aren't on the beta team...?

One of them was until he quit in a huff when LM didn't agree with his reports.

I apologize for my part in getting the thread closed - I sometimes get on a soap box about the dependence on FPS as a criteria of "success" in FSX/P3D.

ONE thing is certain - LM does listen to our gripes and checks them out. Not something we ever would have said about MS and FSX after Phil Taylor left.

That alone would be enough to keep me in the P3D camp.

All that thread did was to be turned into a FPS discussion. If they make any progress on the issue, I'm sure they'll update us accordingly.

Framerate counters should be banned

I don't think you have anything to apologize for Vic. Just because a discussion doesn't go LM's way doesn't mean they have to delete it. They could have locked it. Yeah, I know it's their forum so hold that comment

Also, I'll go ahead and give some unsolicited advice from a 22+ year middle school teacher.

"The second you engage in an argument with a middle schooler, you've lost."

I see people engaging with middle schoolers on this site and over at P3D a lot and they almost always loose. Takes two to tango and if someone's lookin' for an argument, and you give it to 'em, well, please see above.  :Black Eye:

Everyone have a right nice day, as my grandmother used to say...

Between Word Not Allowed (who's been banned here) and Snave (who's been banned almost everywhere), it's a wonder that the official LM message board doesn't melt into a pile of molten silicon. I usually stop by there to read what's going on, but their message board is more for straightforward technical support and not detailed discussion.

Yes, technical support is the focus, drama is not.  Present your information ... if you enter with expectations, you will either leave frustrated or banned.

It's a good place to report issues, it's NOT a good place to make demands and go looking to blame someone.  LM do listen, do read, they most likely look for quantity of users with repeated issues which will trigger some investigation.  However, if they are unable to duplicate a problem they will NOT be able fix it ... that's just common sense.  In the case of the cloud performance, they were able to duplicate and/or spot a "possible" issue.

LM want to keep the channels of communication open ... we should respect that, and reflect that respect in our posts.  Like I keep saying, it's good to have passion, but it's NOT good to have obsession.

Please remember it's a flight simulator ... death threats, hate mail, and more (yes I get those) is being obsessive.

Cheers, Rob.

Seriously!? Those people should really get their heads checked. I thought simmers are mostly quite matured and reasonable fellows and that kind of childish and utterly stupid behaviour wouldn't exist anymore with them. Heated argument sometimes isn't that serious, but threats are another matter.

I followed that LM thread silently, but felt ashamed of the style of a number of contributions from co-simmers. Opinions may differ, but personal attacks do not belong into a technical forum, even more an enterprise forum. Not to mention they were directed against someone providing generous help to a lot of users, including me.

I can fully understand LM, actually I was asking myself why the did not take action earlier.

Kind regards, Michael

Yep - echo your sentiments all. And Rob, you've got more patience than most...

:o   :(

In the meantime until there is a new update from LM I have found following solution for my installation :

Rex4 textures 512 32bit

ASN max cloud layers 3

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120

Flying over UK from London to Edinburgh today gives me stable 28-32 frames although the south was nearly overcast. Without TBM change I only got 12-16 FPS.

The flight was done using the Razbam Metro, ORBX ENG and SCO and ASN actual weather (20:00z). P3D setting frames unlimited, sync and triple buffer on.

Cheers,
Michael
