Mindstar or Flight1 GPS?

Only copy the terrain database from the DVD to the Trainer db folder

Hi Bert,

Since you already own the GTN 750, would you mind a how to/cost of supporting/updating this unit?  My read is that the default only cover North America and there are extra cost that you would incur from Garmin.  Although the unit is very nice, the data update cost and procedure seems geared more toward people with the real subscription with Garmin and out of reach for the average simmer.  Thoughts?  Thanks in advance. Iow, If I just get the unit from F1, I will have to be content with only North America data and 2011 data?

You can run the Carenado executables to add the Reality XP gauges without actually owning them. All the executable does is replace the panel.cfg. I have no idea if adding the Mindstars to a default panel.cfg would work as well. I don't see why not really, because the positions of the default Carenado GPS and the RXP unit in the panel.cfg VC section look the same.

Definitely worth a shot. I'm thinking that those carenado planes that support full vc integration if the rxp unit, one could do the same? Rxp430 for a MS 430...?

I set up the Carenado B1900D to support the RXP unit and then replaced it with our Mindstar Aviation GNS 530 unit. Visually I saw no issues, though I will admit I did not sit around staring at it for hours to see what I might have missed.

Damn it Ed, now I definately have to go fiddle with my carenados - and you just spent a part of Christmas helping me out getting the pop up to work.. Won't bother you with support on this adventure though, and I'll make sufficient backup of why I got working now;-)

EDIT: English isn't my first language and just realized that tinkle might mean something else - changed to fiddle - just to be clear about what I'm going to do and not do around my pc...

The default comes with everything that the Garmin GTN Lite Trainer includes:  Worldwide Navdata, U.S. terrain data.

The optional $25 DVD includes worldwide terrain data, which can be copied over.  This is a one-time expenditure, if you need it at all.

Same navdata as the RXP GNS units.  The navdata can be replaced by newer (recently expired) data.  Just like expired paper charts, you can get a copy from RW pilots who discard them when they expire.  No cost involved.

If you want to sign up for an actual Garmin subscription, things get expensive, just like in RW aviation.

In the odd chances that anyone own the Mindstar AND the Carenado king air 200, would you see if this mod works? http://forum.avsim.net/topic/388883-b200-dual-rxp-gns-530-rxp-wx500-retrofit/

Or if you just know it will or won't then please chime in. I'm considering to buy the ka200 but only if it will take the mindstar in the VC...

I'm thinking the 3d knobs won't be able to drive the Mindstar unit?

Cheers!

Haha, thanks for the info Bert.  Now I need to find out who are these RW pilots, who would not mind give me the old NavData, the trouble is I don't know any RW pilot.  The one I know has a PPL in Canada, but does not own a plane (too expensive in Canada LOL).  I just wish F1 implements these units with Navigraph Updatable data like their G1000.  Sigh

Not going to happen.. the G1000 was programmed by Flight1,  the GTN unit operates with the Garmin Trainer code running the unit.

I hummed and hawed about buying this, wasn't sure if i wanted to spend the money etc, bought it tonight and boy am i glad i did! After one flight any doubts i had were erased, this unit really is a game changer and worth every nickel.

If anyone's on the fence let me shove you over :)

Does the Garmin subscription include international charts?

With the Flight-one GTN 750, I don't appear to have any charts for Europe while I do for the United States or North America.
