December 29, 201411 yr Commercial Member Neither the 430 nor the 530 have anything called 'full VNAV'. They have a VNAV function that will calculate a vertical speed between altitudes and waypoints. One at a time. It is not, by any stretch of one's imagination 'full VNAV'. As for the Mindstar units, no we have not implemented the VNAV page functionality at this time. December 31, 201411 yr Thanks Ed and Ryan. I have yet to get my feet wet using a GPS unit. I have been flying IFR in tubes and VFR in GA. Yes that makes me a bit limited, but I'll get there. I do appreciate the prompt and informative support from Mindstar. This is not to denigrate anyone else. Just kudos for the Mindstar folks. Regards, Graham Derreck CYMM

I'm enjoying the MS GNS tremendously and even though not as feature rich as the gtn, I feel assured that MS will continue to put features into the product, as long as it makes sense to their rw customers also... January 2, 201511 yr No, the terrain database has to be copied from the "Full Trainer" DVD. Hey Bert, I have the add-on "Full Trainer" DVD as well, but the only explanation that I've found so far is the following, and that is assuming the technique for copying the files from an update is the same as copying the files from the full $25 "Full Trainer" DVD that we both seem to have bought: Frequently Asked Questions All Categories » F1TGTN 650/750 Avionics How do I update the 650/750 if I have a subscription? Yes, you can. There are actually several databases that can be updated. NAV = avtn_WW_db.bin Safe Taxi = safetaxi.bin Terrain = AMRN.dat BaseMap = bmap.bin Obstacles = ??? These can be found in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\GTN Trainer\db\ If you have a subscription with Garmin - these files can be easily copied to the above directory. You will need to RENAME avtn_db.bin --> avtn_WW_db.bin Terrain will also have to be RENAMED (trn.dat --> AMRN.dat) Don't forget about changing the ATTRIBUTES. The Garmin files come in as (RASH). These need to be changed to (A)rchive ~~~~~~~~~~ ...so I'm assuming that you have the same and have copied your dvd data over, so how is that done from the a(full Garmin trainer dvd) to b(GTN trainer lite) scenario? If you don't install the "lite", and install the "full", is the flight1/flight1tech GTN 750 smart enough up to get its data from the latter? January 2, 201511 yr a heads up on the mindstar. There are a couple of issues that Mindstar addresses to the publishers of other software, that will not be fixed. For example, in addon aircraft there's a chance that the LCD of the GPS isnt centered and part of the screen falls behind the frame, leaving white borders on the other sides of the screen, like with all Carenado aircraft, for example. Not a huge problem, but annoying to look at all day. As I really miss my RXP Garmins in Prepar3d I'm still on the fence to get the Mindstar units. I have made a lot of panel Garmin lay-out variations of older Carenado aircraft (like the 182Q). So are you saying that when I swap an RXP GNS430 with a Mindstar GNS430 I will have this issue? Does this happen in all Carenado aircraft or only in those that offer RXP integration? This would be a real showstopper for me. And because Mindstar doesn't offer refunds I want to be very sure I can use their units without hassle. Can anybody please elaborate on succesfull or unsuccesful integration of Mindstar units in VC cockpits? Thanks  Cheers, Bert AMD Ryzen 5900X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, Windows 11 Home 64 bit, MSFS 2024

This is documented in the GTN manual, as stated above. Bert
January 2, 201511 yr "Can anybody please elaborate on succesfull or unsuccesful integration of Mindstar units in VC cockpits?" I'm fine in A2A's c172 and PA28 both of which had to be manually configured. Also have two 430's looking great in Carenado PC12. My understanding is if RXP worked and fit then so should Mindstar. You go to Panel cfg. Change the name to Mindstar, keep the original RXP coordinates and finally add the "fifth" parameters - details of which are pretty logical. (and repetitive.) I may be misunderstanding my take on this is it is the GTN that doesn't yet fit into some virtual spaces. Dean Thanks Dean, actually I'm also interested in getting the A2A birds you mention, but I haven't gotten them yet because of the lack of Mindstar integration. I read on their forums they're considering it though, just like in their 182T. For the moment a manual swap would do fine. So what you're saying if I replace the RXP GNS 530/430 combo in the panel.cfg of let's say the Carenado 210 virtual cockpit with the Mindstar units it all looks good? I assume this way the 3D knobs do not work, so you'd have to control the unit through a popup screen. Is that correct? It's been ages since I fiddled with panel setups, so I'm a little rusty. Hi Bert Yes that's right. I don't have the 210 but I had the Carenado Seneca I haven't used yet (from the pre Xmas Sale) so tonight I installed twin Mindstar 430's in it's virtual cockpit. No problem and looks great. The pop up does seems to cause a few problems and for some reason you have to change the idents on the pop up panel settings. Both 11013 in Window 001. Let's be clear I have no previous experience tweaking panel cfg's before. I usually do use the 2d knobs but I've experimented with the 3d knobs tonight so I could report: Actually all the buttons and the left knob work just the same in 3d and 2d. However, the 3d right hand knob is odd. The outer knob has 4 click spots which make that work fine. However, while the inner right 3d knob actually spins both ways I can't see that it is doing what it should do. I'm going to post on the support forum to clarify this on Monday unless someone chips in here. . At the moment this poses the question - if we have twin 430's we may lose some functionalty in the lower unit with its inoperative right knob inner? (because this doesn't have a 2d version). Personally I haven't found it to a problem so far because I just use the second 430 for the flight default view. Hope this helps. January 4, 201511 yr Thanks for your reply Dean. If the Mindstars show without any anomalies in the VC I'm already happy and willing to only control with the 2d knobs on the popup. Cheers, Bert AMD Ryzen 5900X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, Windows 11 Home 64 bit, MSFS 2024
January 4, 201511 yr Is there a way to do this without owning the rxp units? I mean, the modified vc is Carenados work, so the files must come with the purchase..? Is there a way to have the modified vc installed and just putting your Mindstar unit instead? Mas Martin Jensen
January 4, 201511 yr You can run the Carenado executables to add the Reality XP gauges without actually owning them. All the executable does is replace the panel.cfg. I have no idea if adding the Mindstars to a default panel.cfg would work as well. I don't see why not really, because the positions of the default Carenado GPS and the RXP unit in the panel.cfg VC section look the same.
