Question for Airbus fans re: Aerosoft

Featured Replies

I highly recommend it as well. It's really the only tube-liner I fly anymore, and I own the entire (pretty much) PMDG line. Hell, its the only aircraft I paint anymore as well.

First of all let me say I am not really an Airbus guy (mostly due to lack of high level sim), and have been patiently waiting for the FSLabs A320 to appear....but have to say I am lose hope in this one showing up any time soon.  I see now that Aerosoft have the A320/321 out (an older version I think) and a new A318/319.  I think they also plan to upgrade the A321/320 to the A319 standard.

So my question is this:  How good of an addon is the Aerosoft Airbus?  How close to the real thing? and what if anything is missing?

thanks,

As long as you're not into failure scenarios as per the NGX etc, then the Aerosoft Airbus X A318/A319 (or older AXE A320/1) are both as good as PMDG, for normal operations, from the Captain's perspective.

Indeed in some areas of immersion (such as with the checklist system and F/O) there is more on offer than PMDG.

It's also one of the most hotly developed product lines.   Aerosoft had released a couple of hotfixes within a week, and the first (fantastic) SP1 came after just a month,

Compare that with some devs where SP1 takes a year plus.

Snooze and you lose, where the Aerosoft Airbus is concerned.

Just wondering if anyone has the same prob.  I too have the line of Airbuses from Aerosoft.  I set up a flight at say for example EGLL, with the A318.  I will then try to load up the 319, or 320 to do a comparison of some sort, but while going through the change, FSX crashes to desk top.  The only other process running is EzDoc.  Could this be a memory problem common with FSX.  Thanks

Steve, thread hijack. :Tounge: ^_^ No offence though.

You could start a new one. Also take note of the Aerosoft forum with the dedicated section and direct access to the beta testers.

believe me  pmdg its 100 times better if u see the list of bugs in aerosoft forum site you get old , at least 20 pages of bugs,,,,

Really? I didn't know PMDG had done an Airbus.

Hello Mark, the main difference to Boeing is :the Airbus fly you,and you fly Boeing !.Second : the usage of the FMC is differently.

What nonsense.

For your intelligence quotient!!!

ALPER S.

For the price, it's amazing.

It well documented, well supported and it flies very well.

I was waiting for the 'other' one to appear, but it's been years and I'm not a virtual pilot that cares much for really-really real realism.

fsx%202014-08-22%2006-12-03-97.png

The build-in copilot function is nice but then the copilot does almost everything (which is way too much).

Not to say don’t get FS2Crew or anything but you can fly using the built in co-pilot and still do stuff.  Just do it before the co-pilot reads those things off in the checklist and they will be done by you, then verified during the checklist that they were in fact done.  This is how it’s done in the real world too.  Perform the flow and then do the checklist to verify, right?

Er...? You do know you don't have to use the copilot...? I use the checklist option on all my flights but without the CP and so I have to do everything myself which is great (and not that much that it's too much).
I own FS2Crew for the NGX (button version) but I won't buy it for the Airbus because maybe their flow is more realistic but every flow is different anyway and I also don't like that interface onscreen: in the Airbus I have turned off all hotkeys and onscreen messages for the checklists and so everything either happens automatically at the right time, which is great, or I have to click something on the right MCDU, which is much less immersion killing.

So if you think the CP does too much (which he or she indeed does!), turn him or her off!

So my question is this:  How good of an addon is the Aerosoft Airbus?  How close to the real thing? and what if anything is missing?

thanks,

Well Mark,

How good is it? That dependent what your judging it by?

For the money and it's made very clear by Aerosoft that its not a system sim and like most things in life you get what you pay for.

What's good about it?

It looks great inside and out and has some nice features, the check list works well when use like J said above, set to full on becomes silly. The ground friction is done well and the choise of voices is nice along with the PAX/Cargo/Fuel loader. It is by far the best airbus out there you can buy. For the money its worth it as long as you aspect it for what it is.

How close is it to the real thing you ask?

Well its made to be use from day to day opps as the captain. The FO side of the VC does not work at all, so you cannot set WX on the captains side and have the terrain on show on the FO side. Its a very thin line what you call day to day opps. Bryan York of FS2Crew said this about the built in check-list "The built in Aerosoft Airbus FO isn't very realistic  He's easy to use.  But not overly real. Most FS2Crew users prefer realism."

System wise its a long way of "real" but then it was never made to be close to real. e.g.Having the fuel pumps off will not make any difference to a flight you can start the engine, cruise, the lot with them off.

To compare this to the PMDG NGX even in day to day opps  is silly and very misleading and has nothing to do with failures. It was not targeted at the same people and to be fair to aerosoft they have been very clear about this from the start. So if the very people who make it are clear on it, why some people try to make out its as good as the NGX is breathtaking.

The FSLabs if it ever sees the light of day will be I hope the PMDG version of the Airbus, there's a stunning picture showing the captains side with the WX on and terrain on the FO side. I think its safe to say with there's you will know if you forget to turn something on, be it something silly or not.

Is the Aerosoft 318/319 worth buying?

Yes, it works well in P3D 2.x and as long as you take it for what it is / as it says on the tin. Don't compare it to the NGX in anyway , for the price its very nice and it makes a change to fly it. It comes with some very nice features and is a credit to the people who made it. It cost me £19, its good value for money and it supports the developers and that could lead to bigger and better things. That's good for everyone.

Buy it, enjoy it, its fun and very easy to use.

Be aware that "Nyxx" has issues in getting the 'bus working properly on his own PC.   Some of his comments on the Airbus forum have been on the wrong side of 'perhaps a bit on the  trolling side'.

His opinion is as valid as anyones, but is nowhere near repersentative of the majority view on the AS Airbuses.    If you want good opinions on it, ask "J van E".  He's very active, fair and knowledgeable on the buses.   I 'read only' on the Aerosoft forum and a lot of the posts I read (and help I've gleaned) have been from J van E.

The people passing judgements such as "It's very light" and "the F/O does way too much" expose that they don't even have the product!! .... If they did, they'd know that a HUGE amount of configuration is possble;  you can turn the checklist system off, you can turn the automated setting (F/O simulations) off.  Managed and Open Climbing and Descending works fantastically (including VNAV profiling - if you know what you're doing).  The MCDU is very functional.    Yes there are some areas not functional;   a few in the MCDU, and a few on the Overhead but we really are talking about things that are just not typical of daily line operations.  Yes some of them may be tests etc that are made at the start of the day on the first flight.

It is a fantastic simulation and lost more complex and detailed than *those who don't even own it* make out.  ;)

The only lack of intelligence shown here is your comment that 'Airbus fly's you' - Again, total nonsense.

For normal operations, the aerosoft airbus series is very, very good.

To be quite honest, normal ops is all I have time for these days anyway.  ^_^

I did not have  issues in getting the 'bus working properly on my own PC all I notices was the wx with ASN was a FPS hit. Mr Kok said it was 0.1% had the problem but the file to fix it was DL 550 times. The file was for nothing other than the wx. A lot for 0.1%! The option for the wx came with Sp1.

As for the troll comment I will leave you to go as low as starting/hinting at personal insults.

I stand by my review and my view that its worth having.

I just don't see it though rose tinted glass's like you do and I don't want to make it out to be something its not and by it;s design its not.

It called an objective view.
