Smelliest Food You LOVE to Eat

Featured Replies

What are some of the smelliest food you guys love to eat?

For me, it's the King of Fruits.  DURIAN!

You hear people use all kinds of words to describe the smell.  For me, it doesn't smell like anything else out there.  It's unique.  The only thing I can think of is that the smell hits you in a similar way red wine does.  No, they don't smell anything alike.  What I mean is the smell of fermentation and alcohol.  But you don't eat durian that's been fermenting.  You'd want one that's ripe.  Even before they ripen, there is a bit of fermentation smell.

The taste is amazing.  I prefer durians with the yellow fruits over white, but, I'm not picky.  You offer me either one and I'll gladly munch down.  You know you've got good durian when the skin of the fruit is slightly firm (won't break while you take it out) and the fruit underneath is slightly softer than mashed potato.  The yellow fruits have a buttery taste for me.  But what I like most is the richness of the flavors combined.  You get light and airy to thick and heavy at the same time.  There is nothing out there that taste anything like the durian.  I love tropical fruits, but the durian is the King of Fruits.

For you foodies out there who enjoy trying new bizarre things, add this one to your list.

Jimmi, you do NOT eat surstromming.  I don't know any sane person who would even try it.  I've been around surstromming and the smell is like rotting fish at the garbage dump.  It's even been banned on aircraft because of the possibility it can explode from all the gas in the can.

What does any of this have to do with flightsimming?

Or aviation in general?

I think it's about food you'll never see in an inflight meal, like my favourite, kimchi.

Looks like this thread is going to go sour because some people only want to read about simming/aviation.  Mods, can you please remove this thread.  Thanks.

When I went to the Philippines a few years ago, my aunt gave me durian... let's just say things didn't end well for my stomach. I have no clue how anyone could possibly enjoy that thing

LOL.  Good one.  With durian, you'll either love it or hate it.  I can down a whole fruit on my own.

Sorry about that. The post was directed towards Jim and Kevin.

I'll keep reading/posting and let the mods decide if the thread should stay up.

No, as there's nothing at all inappropriate about discussing smelly food in the Hanger chat forum. Now discussing how badly the mechanics in the hanger smell like rotten onions might be a bit over the top...

I love Wolfgang Fassbender's comment about Surströmming, "the biggest challenge when eating surströmming is to vomit only after the first bite, as opposed to before."

I cannot think of any food that smells worse than kimchi!
