Further FSX and FSX:SE benchmark test

Recommended Posts

I'm getting more fps in FSX actually...

My short testing:

Identical settings between the two, including same nvidia inspector profile, Heavy Snow theme, a beta aircraft I can't mention (muwhahah), Flightbeam's KDEN Ry 35L (gives nice view of buildings)

FSX:SE - 16 fps

FSX - 25 fps

Same situation as above but clear skies and default C172

FSX:SE - 31 fps

FSX: 32 fps

Go figure!

Now I'm afraid to uninstall FSX:SE as it might delete some of my FSX settings...  Anyone done that yet?

That only tells me half the story. What are your detail settings?

Everything full right except AutoGen = Dense and Water = 1X High.

I can even use LOD 8.5 with no issues.

I don't and I fly 15 hour flights on a routine basis, and I use the dreaded DX 9 mode
 Can you share some of the flights you do? (to and from)..... BTW, that might explain how you find time for 23.5K posts. Cheers.

I once simulated the 777-200LR distance record VHHH-EGLL in the PMDG 777. Flight time was 22 hours. Only thing I turned down was the water detail because I was flying over two oceans. The flight route also covered three continents, and since I didn't want to deal with disabling sceneries across the entire globe, I left them all active. Two ETOPS portions, two sunrises... a very long, but amazing flight. Sat at Heathrow with a celebratory drink for another hour. It's hard to end a flight session after 23 straight hours of immersion. You can do some amazing things with FSX despite its limitations.

I can now also give a performance conclusion between fsx and fsx se:

I installed both separately so it was no side by side installation.

First clean FSX SE and afterwards clean FSX Installation

I installed the following addons:

FTX Global , Vector and LC Europe , Majestic Dash8 Q400 , FS Dreamteam LSZH and Fly Tampa Vienna

Weather was standard fsx: fair weather theme

FSX SE Settings:

Scenery all full right exept water.  Water was on 2.0x High

No AI Traffic Road Traffic 8 %  rest standard settings

I had all over the flight constant 31 FPS locked in FSX SE with FSX internal limiter

FSX Settings:

Scenrey:

Complexitiy : Very Dense

Autogen: Dense

Rest as above in FSX SE Settings

And in FSX i only reached "only" 21-24 FPS

So for my config it seems that FSX SE is better for performance.

Hi Everybody,

Just had a try to get FSX:SE to go into an OOM - well I succeed!!!

But to be honest - FSX:SE handles OOM's a lot better then then normal FSX. To get it to OOM I needed to install:

ORBX NCA

Aerosofts USCitysX San Francisco

Flight Beams KSFO...

Carenados TBM850

AS2012 32Bit textures

and 35% MyTraffic Airlines and 20% GA.....

and then I set all sliders right

and then I needed to fly around the area for quite some time.... and bingo - I knew I could break it ...

But as far as I can see, an incredible job DT did with the code.....

regards

Damnit! You beat me to it!  :p0502:

I was flying around Flightbeam KSFO with NCA installed trying to break it. Guess the magic sauce was the enormous US Cities X SFO. Congrats. You are the first documented case I have seen of an OOM in FSX: SE.

I just bought this on steam, it is $13 or close to it, not $5.

I'm downloading now and will benchmark to see for myself.

Well you were late. Most people, including I myself, got it for $5 when it was on sale

Thanks my friend....

I knew I could break it!!! I'm a natural Beta Tester. I find Bugs that arent even there......However - it does a remarkable job in handling VAS - lets see what happens when PMDG's excellent AC enter the Steam Market.

PS.: If you deactivate the USCX SFO "SanFrancisco_3D_001_Extreme.bgl" and "SanFrancisco_3D_002_Extreme.bgl" it does not OOM anymore - so one has to be really brutal to get it there....

So FSX:SE isn't the answer to my OOM problems? What a shock...

Still, going to pick it. The pros are more abundant than the cons, fortunately :)

Steam, but the cost has risen.

Might get cheaper on the last day of the sale (2nd Jan)

If you have OOM problems in regular FSX, it is. Look how hard we had to try to break it.
