Global AI Ship Traffic FSX and P3D News and Support

Featured Replies

Hi Henrik

I have also done the first tests flights in P3D V4. The ship traffic works fine. I only found some little errors (intermittent waves) but I think they are results of the default scenery due to uneven water surfaces (water hills).

I noticed that the animations are much more powerful. The waves are bigger and the smoke from the chimneys is pitch black. However, this can also be due to my settings. I've really put all the controls on the right-hand stop and activated all the shadows etc.

The making of screenshots without camera tools is somewhat more difficult than usual but I will try to make a few pictures tomorrow.

Hello Alex

I can also confirm that your LNM runs perfectly in P3D V4.

Hi Henrik

First time I have tried posting a picture so here goes, starting off the coast of Barcelona -

bandicam2017-06-0120-49-33-536.jpg

bandicam2017-06-0120-55-19-326.jpg

at first I thought there was a problem with the bow-waves -

bandicam2017-06-0120-56-38-070.jpg

bandicam2017-06-0120-57-50-318.jpg

but then found some with all effects working correctly, like these off Hong Kong. So is it the case that not all ships have bow-waves?

bandicam2017-06-0121-07-05-634.jpg

bandicam2017-06-0121-10-40-976.jpg

and in the English Channel -

bandicam2017-06-0121-17-12-435.jpg

Tomorrow I shall try and fire up P3Dv3 and P3Dv4 side by side and in a like for like scenario see if there is much of a hit on ship numbers. Let me know if there is a time/location/ship you are particularly keen to know works or not and I'll have a look.

Superb - thanks a lot.Clearly the ship works :D

You are right - not all ships have a bow wave - there are several categories of wakes:

1) standard fx wakes - no bow wave, no smoke, no lights -only a two dimensional image on the water surface

2) standard fx wakes with nested smoke, lights, and simple bow wave

3) custom fx wakes with nested smoke, lights, and particle effect bow wave

All three are represented on your images - smoke and wakes all looks normal - but the light is difficult to spot - is it there? All ships have as minimum a texture based light so that will always be visible, but the effect light does not seem to shine very brightly. Can you take a night flight and go close?

Apart from the above there are some custom wakes which differ a lot - one is for the Alboran ferry sailing between Algeciras and Ceuta - can you take a look at that one. At the same time there will be plenty of other ships to see in the strait of Gibraltar.

Next there could be issues with some models done in different way that my own models - it would be nice to check if the Calypso and the Bounty are okay - both are beutiful models so I hope there are good - the Bounty you can find in Chesapeake bay - the Calypso e.g. in Tahiti.

Well, based on a quick check around Gibraltar, the lighting looks pretty good to me. I will do some more tests tomorrow (it is 00.30 here!).

However I went to Tahiti and pretty much got a CTD straight away which is a concern, as I don't have any other addons yet so wonder if it was because the Calypso was in range? I'll remove that ship tomorrow and see what happens in Tahiti?

I also went to Chesapeake Bay. I couldn't see any tall ships but will look further tomorrow. However there was plenty of shipping activity with no apparent problems, so if it was there, it seems to be okay.

Sorry, forgot to add -

Is this the ferry leaving Ceuta, multi-hull wake working fine?

One good, one bad... Good news is that both Alboran and it's wake works as intended... bad news is the lights... what you see is the fallback option, which is in itself not too bad - but it will take some time to reestablish the brighter shinning effect based lighting.

THe Calypso is unfortunately present in many places so it would be excellent if you can check if removing her solve your issue. Just remove the whole folder with Calypso and restart.

Also got a CTD, when starting at St. Maarten.  Removed the Calypso and it didn't crash.

I recently have a strange CTD problem as well that I didn't notice before installing this ship package. In P3D v4, when I start at PHNL airport and switch to OUTSIDE > SPOT view and pan my view towards the terminal buildings, it crashes the sim. It always happens at the same exact spot and location during the pan. I have narrowed it down to the ships addon. Because I already tried deactivating my AI traffic addon and it still has the same issue. I am using FSDT's PHNL airport by the way. And I never noticed this problem before until after I installed the ship package. I'm wondering if it has something to do with that.

If anyone can do me a favor, could you load up at PHNL, and then switch to OUTSIDE > SPOT view and then pan your camera towards the airport terminal buildings and tell me if you get a CTD?

I also agree if this add-on can somehow be installed outside of the P3D folder as according to LM's suggestions. This will make it so much easier to pinpoint problems, and to uninstall and reinstall the sim without affecting 3rd party add-ons. Meaning you don't have to reinstall all your add-ons again if you decide to uninstall/reinstall the sim.

UPDATE: I think I found the problem. This global ship add-on is what's causing the CTD. I went ahead and turned off the ships by turning my traffic sliders down to 0% for ships and leisure ferry boats, and loaded up the same airport and it didn't crash this time.

Thanks - the conclusion is clear:

Calypso which is an old FS9 model is not compatible with P3Dv4 and the folder AI_Calypso containing this ship most be removed. The folder is located in simobjects/boats/.

Regards to the comment above from Captain420 - Calypso can also be present in Hawaii - I cannot check at the moment - heading to work - but remove the Calypso folder try again. There might be other models not compatible - I will make a list of suspects and how we can test quickly this evening. The number of ships which could cause problems is limited and the easy temporary solution is just to remove their folders - 95 % of the ships where compiled using the same method as the ships in Ian's screenshots above, so they do not cause problems.

KL791, thanks for your help. I will try that and report back.

Do you get a logfile? Another model present in that area is the QM2 - I think she is okay, but if removing Calypso does not solve it, try removing her.

where is the logfile? Anyways, I removed the Calypso and I don't have anymore crashing at PHNL now. Thanks! We have to figure out all the old FS9 models and get rid of them so that this addon would be 100% compatible with P3D v4 then. Could you update this package for P3D v4 so only compatible ships are installed?

The package will be updated but before updating all issues must be identified and pt I am on business travel overseas and when I am back home i will only stay very few days, so without the help of the community no chance of an update soon. But the number of suspect models is really limited... Your test now actucally removed several other models from the list, because I know they are present in Hawaii :D :D :D We still need to find the Bounty... I think she is okay but I do not know how she was compiled. If someone checks Carl Vokes schedules for the Global AI Ship Traffic available here in the library it should be easy to find her.

I strongly suggest using the new P3D method of installing outside the sim, that way disabling the scenery leaves no "global" effects on the sim.  I have already done that for FSX, using a cfg file edit to point to the simobjects; however the effects and sounds still have to be copied over to the sim folders.  With the new approach, that's no longer needed and the auto-discovery is wonderful!  Another plus is that I don't need two copies of the installation.

Here's the addon.xml file I use, it should be self-explanatory as it's just a lot of folder paths. Note that I put all the traffic bgl's in G:\AI_Ships\Scenery.
