I no longer have a dual system and rreinstalled FSX-Steam.  FSX has been uninstalled.  I had no pproblems with any of the FSDT software including GSX with dual install.  After stand alone steam install everything appeared to work just fine including all of the FSDT and Flight beam.  Now I am having problems with the couatl error closing down FSX-SE when starting in any FSDT airports. I have reinstalled some of the airports and then the addon manager but each time couatl error occurs shutting down FSX. Below is a typical error message in couatl.err.  I am not a guru on trouble shooting this sort of stuff so hope someone can see what may be the problem.  I do have a question is the Virtuali Addon Manager the same as the Addon Manager downloaded from steam?  The only thing I can gleam from this is either a dll.xml problem and/or an addon.  I have also iniformed the problem on the FSDT forum early this morning but no replies. Probably they are unable to understand since I am not to good at explaing this sort of stuff.

 

 

 I sure will appreciate any help.  The last resort is a reinstall of Steam.

And that is precisely what I will do to avoid issues like you have. Unless a developer has confirmed dual-compatibility, like PMDG did with their 777 family, I steer clear.

Pretty sure FSDT was the first dev to make their products FSX-SE compatible. Mine work flawlessly.

I have been away from fsx for awhile now. What do you mean by running them side by side? I have fsx installed with all my addons and was thinking about downloading fsx steam. Would I be able to launch fsx steam and still access my addons or does everything need to be copied over to steam etc?

FSDT has had new installers for their product to be used in the Steam version since Dec 19th.

That is brilliant news. I stand corrected. I'm sure I had read somewhere in the GSX sub-forum something about waiting for a patch. And there was me------mind you, I have been away from FSX since middle of November----thinking that I'd not be able to use my FSDT airports in FSX-SE.

Yes I have installed all FSDT and FB software using the new FSX-SE installers including GSX.  There was no problem in their installs and worked with the dual and now I only use Steam.  All the other payware have installed with no problem it is just this Couatl problem. Also when I installed them I had Norton's disabled. At present I have uninstalled all of the FSDT and FB airports and GSX.   The one question I still am not sure about is the "vORTIALI Addon Manager-FSX-SE be uninstalled as well.  Then I would be clear of all their software. Will wait to see if there can be a solution to this problem before I try a reinstall.

If that is the case, why is it that this what I see on my screen? So much for re-activation not required.

I get the coutl crash too every once in a while. I understand the need for security but it sucks. It's the most intrusive program for fsx. I just did a flight to lax last night and landed. I closed fsx and started back at lax and the buildings were missing when 5 mins before they were there

I looks like all of your errors have to do with not being able to access/update CouatlAddons.ini. My installation (FSX-SE only) points to my User/Computer name in the "Owner" directory (e.g. C:\\Users\\Smakar\AppData\\Roaming\\Virtuali\\CouatlAddons.ini).

Have you confirmed that this directory exists? If it does, I would try setting permissions to Full Control for whatever User Names are listed.

 

PS - I have a GSX and a bunch of FSDreamTeam and FlightBeam airports with FSX-SE and no issues - but that doesn't mean I'm a fan of Coauatl <g>

You were on the right track. I have gotten good support from Umberto/FSDT advising me to just try deleting the "CouatlAddons.ini".. I did that and have started reinstalling some of the airports and all is good.  I no longer recieve any crashes or freezes at FSDT airports.  All the buildings are in place.  I have been installing one at time and check the AppData\Roaming\Virtuali\error file to make sure It doesn't appear. I am still trying to solve the message at FSX startup " Do you want to start Couatl-yes or no.  Have used "yes" each time and all appears to work. I have not tried to install GSX.  Not sure if that could have been the culprit.  There was one more suggestion to modify the "exe.xml file to change a few "true" to "false", which I have not done.

I have the crash as well, but it doesn't kill the FSX:SE process on my machine, so I haven't worried about it.

Has anyone got an answer to the weird behaviour of that Couatl? I pick a gate that will suit a heavy from the Follow Me menu. then when I go to ask for deboarding, I kept getting repeated screen flashes to Revoke Follow-me, Revoke Parking, Just Warp Me There. When I choose another heavy gate, I still keep getting these silly stupid options, Is Couatl screwed up?

Rick, I have fixed the problem and no longer get that message on start up. You will have to go into your "EXE.XML file.  The fix is thanks to Umberto at FSDT.  I made the suggestions he made and all is well.  Hope this will help.
