[30MAR15] NGX Updates and some other News Bits

Featured Replies

Hi, Tom,

From where, precisely, did you download the installation file?  Was it from your PMDG store account?  Do you have both steam and boxed versions on the same computer?

Mike

I got it from here

and only have steam...

I do also have SimConnect installed

Hi, Tom,

I also have the boxed version of NGX and your link looks pretty much like the one I used.

I know that you say you have SimConnect installed, but did you run the installation files for all three "legacy" simconnects?  FSX:SE does not install them, but it does supply installers.  This sure sounds like missing simconnects.  The installers are located in three subfolders of the following folder:

...\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces

In each subfolder just click on the simconnect.msi file.  It is safe to install all of them -- I have and I haven't seen anyone else report a problem with doing this.

yep...

I know it's kind of irrelevant, but, like me other users have had a problem with the aerosoft airbus x extended right fmc, as it has been greyed out and you can't click on the menus. Others installed SimConnect and it was fixed, however, when I installed SimConnect, the problem didn't go away?

OK, I was hoping that was the fix.  Did this computer already have the NGX installed in some version?  If so, you probably should completely uninstall it.  Possibly there is some remnant of it in the registry that needs to be removed -- I'm not very knowledgeable about how to do this, but there are threads on how to fix the registry.

Did this computer previously have FSX:MS (boxed) version?  Maybe there is some remnant of that in the registry as well.

The NGX file downloaded from Aerosoft certainly does work!  Also want to mention that the file size of the installation zip on my computer is 763,247 KB.

Hope this helps.

OK - so I finally upgraded to v1.1 of the NGX (after nearly wiping out my entire FSX program due to improper Uninstall program) .  I have ASN SP2.  Going through the new PMDG 737NGX Information file, I see nothing about how to activate/operate the weather radar.  What am I missing ?

FCOMv2.

What happened to AVSIM

And I guess it is just as simple as pressing WX on the EFIS control panel     Duh !

Thanks for the FCOM reference.

Hello,

I downloaded the new installer from my previous orders on your website,  and when I  try to run it to install over NGX 1c, by selecting Repair, it runs literally a second  and says complete, but when I open FSX there is no change, and the version of NGX remains  1 c. I am not sure why the new installer would not even try to update or overwrite any files, and that worries me a bit as to what will happen if I uninstall and reinstall, ie what is the installer going to do -- anything? I tried downloading the new installer twice with same result.

I remain confused about what folders need to be deleted after uninstalling to attempt new  install. I hate to lose all of my panel states, keyboard short cuts, etc, etc.

I culled some quotes from all of the traffic above and here are some things that are unclear:

Kyle mentions  Delete any references to PMDG in the [sim} PMDG folder, and that "I have updated the main post to include the right folder" but I cannot locate what main post he is referring to. Deleting any references removes all the panel state, shortcuts, previously created aircraft versions etc. Another poster says we do not need to remove all of those files, as the old panels will largely work.

I would really appreciate a more clear statement of what really needs to be deleted after the uninstall, at the minimum to avoid losing shortcuts, saved panels for all of my saved flights, service histories etc. Otherwise it seems like I will have to start from day one like I just purchased the product just to do an update.

Is there something wrong that the repair attempt does nothing at all in terms of modifying the files?

Norton flagged the installer as a virus, but I excluded from scans it so it does launch.

Thanks,

Greg Clark

Thanks. This sort of confirms that the update becomes a new install losing all my panel states and associated flights, shortcuts I have built up and I am not sure the update is worth all of that. I wonder why it could just not be an update of existing install.

I will wait for someone from PMDG to comment on what I should expect a repair to do. To me the downloaded installer is acting more like it is the old 1c version as it  and runs only a second before completing and does not change anything.  I do not know if the installer has all the files it needs to do the update, or whether it would connect again to internet to download needed files, etc. and I do not want to uninstall the NGX and find out the installer is bad and will not reinstall it or will reinstall the version 1 c leaving me right back where I started. Since Norton deleted it as a virus I had to redownload and exclude it for it to remain on the computer, but after that  did try downloading twice with no change in behavior when it ran.

You do have to do a full reinstall, but after the uninstall, do not delete any other folders or data, Then after the reinstall, you shouldn't lose your existing NAV DATA or liveries. Technically you wouldn't lose your panel states either, but the panel states in SP1C is not compatible with SP1D so, they have to be redone anyway. I believe this last update did fix the default panel states that came with the NGX (If you use a SP1C panel state, you'll get a fuel warning light that you won't be able to get rid of. ) To get back your liveries, go to the Operation Center, and in notifications, you should see a warning for missing liveries Select the repair option and you should be all set to go. (Not sure if this works, if you didn't have the OC prior ie: with the T7) Note though, you may have to setup your PMDG options again.

I'm not sure whether you can use old panel states or not.  The basic startup panel states are new, apparently having been created @ 3/16/2015, but the panel states for the two tutorials (in my Steam version, which is a new install of the boxed version of the NGX) are from 2/22/2012.  This may be an oversight by PMDG, but it also may mean that older panel states are still usable.

The first release of SP1D still had the SP1C panels, them along with any user panels, made under SP1C. had the problem. The second SP1D release replaced the PMDG supplied panel states with new ones. Any user panel states made with SP1C I believe would still be affected. Those would have to be remade. Note start with either the default NGX or one of the new PMDG SP1D panel states to make new ones. If you make them from a SP1C file, you'll still have the problem.

Panel states will lost in the process.

Key commands, however, you can save by looking at the feedback in this thread:
