I know that DTG will have a limited development budget, unless you believe it has an unlimted budget?

You continue to prove my point. Thanks.

I'm just glad you let us all in on your intimate knowledge that game developers have limited budgets. We'd all be lost in the dark without you astutely pointing that out. Crisis averted.

Of course they would have added it. Many elements were already in the game and disabled... with the intent to enable as needed for the DLC. Flight is setup to be very modular and flexible. Don't mistake the game elements and marketing for the capability of the engine. It is a next-generation FS engine, and most probably will be the basis for further Dovetail Games flight sims (and train sims... and perhaps other simulations as well).

And, of course Dovetail is going to use the 'technology" they bought from Microsoft. What they bought was Flight. They are only re-distributing FSX:SE, with enough minor fixes to keep the money coming in until they release the next flying game. They cannot overhaul FSX according to their contract with Microsoft. And who would want to, when Flight's technology is far better than FSX?

Dick

I don't think so. Did they ever say they were? Did they even hint at it in their development plans? If they were just wanting to milk it for DLC they could of "enabled" the ATC long before they went defunct. When a developer is suspiciously quiet about something, it's usually because they don't want to have to outright say they aren't going to do it.

There's no true right answer here though. We each have our opinions on it and it'll have to end there.

As for the superior-ness of Flight's engine, maybe it is. We can't really know how much because they limited it so much. How truly optimized it was in comparison may be a mystery we never get the answer to. At this point do we even know if DTG has access to Flight's code?

I kinda hope they don't do anything that easy, and instead try to really innovate. I hate the idea of several more years of flat ribbon roads running across the top of football fields.  :(

If they did do such a (horrible) thing though, there's years of DLC right there, via Orbx regions...........

Bleah.

It shouldn't be that hard to make 3D roads. The current engine already does so with 3D extrusion bridges based on landclass data.

It does need to be pointed to some posters in the thread. DTG is not going to include everything suggested by everyone posting here. It will have a limited budget. Some people are going to be disappointed.

For example:

If I were DTG, I might be quietly licensing FTX global, if I intended to (kind of) do the world all at once, but didn't really want to put in the work.

I never speculated about DTG's budget - I said it was limited.

Do you really think that DRG is  going to include everything suggested by everyone posting here - FTX global?

Simple. You decided to quote me specifically with your "For example" (again) as something that would apparently be too expensive to implement. Your belief that this would be so is backed up by nothing more than your own speculation about the limits of DTG's budget.

Do you remember this from just a few pages ago?

If Ford asks me what I want, and I ask for a 200 mph car, then oh, well..... they can do with the request what they want, can't they? Just like they can do what they want with a request for essentially a pilot training sim from a gaming oriented company. We are all on the same level, here.

We can ask, and we might receive........ Or maybe not!

Yet you continue to belabor this point, apparently just for the sheer joy of being argumentative. Its silly. Even worse, the post you are quoting is one I am not even actually in favor of!

Also, comparing a Ford with a Ferrari is pointless. Ford can make a very expensive car, they can make a very fast car. But its not a Ferrari. End of.

LOVE IT!

+ but on the serious side people, do us a favour and stop speculating (harsh, yes, but true). This thread is for suggestions as to what DTG could implement in their new sim:

"Whether your idea is, big or small, we invite you to share them with us, however we cannot guarantee that anything discussed in this thread will make it into the final simulator. "

.... my point is - why argue about it?

P.S: @mgh - you say that you aren't speculating here:

I never speculated about DTG's budget - I said it was limited.

...but what you have written is an obvious definition of speculation. You have no "firm evidence" - in fact, you may never know if DTG has an unlimited budget (they may be subsidized by the UK government; recently the PM had a visit).

If you aren't employed at DTG, we can't take your comment as proof...

Well, HiFlyer convinced me at last. I vote in favour of some sort of damage modeling, just as several other "serious" civil flight simulators (in addition to every military flight sim) has had in the past: Flight Unlimited 1, 2 and 3, Condor Soaring, Silent Wings...

Murmur!!!! Long time no see :-)

Come and play Il2 BoS and DCS with me!!!!

Or share the PSX cockpit in a long haul....

All while we wait for whatever DTG will give us :-)

Do you really think that HMG will give DTG an unlimited budget  to develop a game????

Let's wait until DTG releases in new flight simulator and wait for thread complaining about it.

Indeed  -where does that DTG will be given a unlimited budget? It's a combination of DTG's and the Prime minister's spin.

In reality, there only £100 M available and firms will have to bid for that, no there is no assurance DTG will get any of ot it, and the Funders (bankers) themselves wouldn't release money on such unlimited basis.

The Business Bank will run a pilot of Help to Grow which will aim to generate at least £100m of new lending, with a request for proposals issued in March at Budget, focused on two alternative approaches:  1) Funds that would co-invest private money alongside public money, drawing on the to the BBB’s experience of running its highly successful Enterprise Capital Funds programme; 2) Funds that would invest private money supported by a structured government guarantee to encourage increased lending.

as i see, lets wait until DTG acually releases it and then see the complaints.
