Well impressed with the 777 after VAS Test, SS of settings

I don't have scenery addition for region. Lets see how Nvidia  SLI enabled driver will effect OOM. It looks like it will provide better VAS and performance. I hope so. May be it will sove the problem. If not I will wait for PMDG 747 .

Please report back on your findings with video driver's impact on VAS... that will be interesting.

Full names in the PMDG forums please.

Changing STAR while on approach?  That is very confusing, the approach is after the arrival procedure.  Please provide specific information.

Changing the STAR due to a runway change from when I first planned the flight and started many hours before. 7 hours into an 8 hour flight, I had a route programmed, on approach to the airport, before getting to the star, I change the runway selected and the star to reflect the different runway from my original route. A few minutes later, OOM.

on approach to the airport, before getting to the star,

Okay, I get it now... your use of the phrase "on approach" has a very specific meaning to pilots:  It means you are executing the approach procedure such as an ILS.  You mean you are approaching the airport and you are still before the arrival in your route.  Had to clarify that.

Changing the arrival (STAR) or approach (IAP) will not cause an OOM.  That method has been tested and used many times; however, if you just happened to be running low on VAS resources at the time then it was an unhappy coincidence.

Please note that there are numerous threads and discussions on-going on the OOM event.  I am not sure if you are new to the subject or you have been following it for some time.  I recommend you first review the Introduction document in its discussion on VAS memory and recommendations to manage the resource.  Get a copy of Process Explorer and/or registered copy of FSUIPC and start monitoring your VAS.  Please do not hesitate to start a new thread with a description of your problem for assistance from other users.

At first I was not sure, it can possibly be the change of the approach, or the STAR. I just know in the 3 cases the OOM has happened after the patch, I changed both the runway and the STAR in the FMC. I do not have the free time to track it right now, I just wanted to throw out what I have found and if anyone has the ability to test, or has seen the same thing, that was my goal. Possibly the weekend after next I can have time to do this. Thank you. David Lee

I also encourage you to participate in the VAS data collection thread I referenced a few threads down.

I really want anyone who thinks (or doesn't think) they are having trouble with VAS directly correlated to the 777 to take part to create a unified repository we can start drawing some conclusions and maybe root causes from.

Check out my repaints and downloads, all right here on AVSIM

I hear ya Kyle (you "encouraged" me to take part in VAS data collection too), I downloaded your test cards but for me to comply with those requisites is going to take some time, what with life getting in the way etc.

But I'll try to gather whatever I can and pass it on, hopefully, I know PMDG will get to the bottom of this issue if an issue actually exists!

Kyle,

I will not be a good candite for your project. I wish I can do. Not much time.

I  just completed KEWR-KMCO  FSX-SE flight  with PMDG-777 WITH OUT OOM. :yahoo:

SE,  must find a way to generate and maintain VAS  for  PMDG. AlL SLIDES were MAXED .

THis was close to two hours flight. Tomorrow I wii test the TXKF-KEWR.

I just completed a flight in FSX-SE, FB KSFO, 50% AI spent 1 hour doing pre flight, departed, landed at NZAA with 1.5GB free VAS. After shutting down engines, went to spot view, and VAS dropped 30 MB, that is all.. This is amazing. Never ever been able to land with that much free, and to not lose hardly any VAS in spot view is quite remarkable.

Dave,

I see you have the frames locked at 30.  How steady does it stay there?  I came here looking for advice on the 777 because I get 18fps.  I'm going to try your settings and see what I get.

Thanks!

it says at 30 95% of the time even at aerosofts EGLL.

Ok thanks. Because the stability of the fps is something people sometimes forget to mention. :)

I tried your settings exactly and it's off to a good start.  I'll read your guide.

i have tried your settings from reading your pdf and even with lower settings i still sometimes get OOM ding and i dont even change views but i want to. something is crazy here. can you mention about your cfg please? is it clean or what all tweaks you did? i have around 280 AI bgls which i compiled myself from AIG and UTT flightplans and set AI at1% because that settings show all of AI but i use traffic limiter posted here to max of 40 aircrafts. maybe it's my settings in NI also which i should remove AA. can that play a part in OOM? Since i moved to P3D i find myself even more prone and worried about OOM.

look forward to hearing from you soon.

Its all in the PDF and my PC spec's

I use MY6 at 20% sometimes 30%, Do a flight were you get a OOM and do the same fight with no AI, see if that's your problem. don't forget to only have only the two airports your using for the flight active.

My NI setting are above(page1) AA will bring down your FPS in clouds but would not give OOM's.
