July 8, 201510 yr Will Windows 10 Home, for example, automatically update any Nvidia or Saitec drivers I have installed or my PC? Gerry Howard
July 8, 201510 yr Will Windows 10 Home, for example, update any Nvidia or Saitec drivers I have installed or my PC? Yes. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
July 8, 201510 yr Can you provide a Microsoft link to confirm that? No. I cannot. But I can provide other evidence. I found this on HP's website while browsing for a laptop: Microsoft Windows 10: Not all features are available in all editions or versions of Windows 10. Systems may require upgraded and/or separately purchased hardware, drivers, software or BIOS update to take full advantage of Windows 10 functionality. Windows 10 is automatically updated, which is always enabled. ISP fees may apply and additional requirements may apply over time for updates. See http://www.microsoft.com. http://store.hp.com/us/en/cat/Laptops on the bottom of the page. Also, here's Windows Updates installing drivers on my laptop automatically, without giving me a choice: And here it is installing drivers on my desktop without asking me: Is that enough proof? i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB

July 8, 201510 yr Lets remember that an early build is not a final release. So lets wait for final release With just 3 weeks until release, I'd say that the latest preview build is extremely close to the real thing. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
July 9, 201510 yr Commercial Member No, none of the preview builds can be compared to release when it comes to updates. They are forcing updates because you agreed to it for testing. This is not necessarily the case with rtm. Still just speculation. July 9, 201510 yr What do you run that is so mission critical that any update they could release would cripple anything your run that would result in A) Loss of critical intellectual property or sensitive information. B. jeopardize your business. Nothing? Thought so. Working in IT, I can't even tell you how many people fail to install updates. Like months and months worth. By forcing home users to update without their say so, they in turn reduce their workload from issues that arise as a result of not updating their OS. No DVD software? Who has a DVD player anymore? You want a reason why automatic updates can be a bad thing? how's this then ... I run a radio show on a Friday night, networked on a number of radio stations in Australia and the USA. I use a couple of laptops for quite a lot of the content for the show. if I have automatic updates on for anything, you can pretty well guarantee that murphy's law will apply and my laptop will want to update and/or reboot during the show. That will take my show off the air while it does. The same Murphy's law will also ensure that the reboot happens while I'm timing up to a news link or an ad break. Those links are timed to half a second tolerances. 2 seconds dead air is a LONG time and I have never yet seen a computer that can reboot in 2 seconds or less. I DO NOT want my PC to decide when it's going to update. I will decide. For similar reasons I dont want Norton to update then either, or Adobe Creative Cloud or anything else. While my show is on the air, all I want my computers doing is working on my radio show. Nothing at all else. I dont want any other non-essential background programs running either. No Skype waiting for a call, no Skype Recorder waiting for a skype call to start, no Apple iTunes, no dropbox, no Navigraph FMS data manager ,, none of that. There's a dazzling array of programs that all lie there, and suddenly, without warning popup and start doing stuff, and all potentially able to derail a radio show while it's on air. I get really annoyed with people at companies like Apple and Microsoft who think they know better than me how I ought to be using my equipment and software. Sure - by all means make things easier and more reliable for us. I agree with that. But for heavens sake leave us with some options to control what happens and let us modify the default setup for our own needs. Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia
July 9, 201510 yr Is that enough proof? No. My point is about 3rd party updates. My Windows 7 PCs state according to Windows updates (my emphasis) Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware For hardware that you've connected to your computer in the past, updated drivers might become available at a later date; but those drivers aren't installed automatically. To install these optional updates, go to Windows Update in Control Panel, check for updates, and then view and install driver updates that are available for your computer. My Windows 7 PCs are set up for automatic updates and I have have Intel, HP, Nvidia, and Saitek. Windows show no 3rd party updates for them because I've never bothered.. Gerry Howard
July 9, 201510 yr nothing of any importance. his comment has been removed. He has never said anything bad about Microsoft's new OS, he has only pointed out what folks who are testing this OS already know. In the Home version windows updates are not optional or deferrable, sorry if that fact annoys you, but it is just how it is. Edited July 10, 201510 yr by n4gix Removed Flame Bait.

July 9, 201510 yr As I said before, where does Microsoft , or anyone, state that about 3rd party drivers. They don't. It's just built into the OS. Have you even used W10 Preview yourself? i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
