I have to ask what is Microsoft idea behind not allowing users to control updates in Windows 10?

Get Windows 10 Pro.

Glad to read that my Pro update will still allow me that Windows Update control. I always parse every KB...to see what the packet is before allowing download and installation...but I still don't understand why they would take that away from anyone using less than the W10 Pro version?!!?!?   That sucks!

Umm, in the beta, W10 Pro users can't really select updates or control them, either. You can only DEFER updates for a limited time (some say 8 months or so). That's not really "control".

Just more speculation.

No but that does not give you any more information than the rest of us especially since MS does not know what is going on. So again just more guesses just like most of this thread.

I tend to take the approach of waiting until all...sorry, most of the bugs are worked out before committing.  I am on the list to get it, but I'll wait to install it after the nuclear winter dies down. Hehe

Not a speculation. It's what I'm seeing. I'm running the beta. Are you?

I don't bother with betas - they are not  the final version. Also, do have a separate beta for each of Win 10 final editions?

Well, a virtual machine takes 5 seconds to install and gives you a nice preview of the final build.

During the install, you get a choice between Home or Pro beta.

Most of the "bugs" are rarely worked out even in Win7 today.  It's really just a matter of severity of impact of the bug, there will be a priority assigned to each and every "real" bug (ones that can be duplicated).  There will be a looming release date with an "acceptable" limit to the number of bugs to go into a "released" product.  Almost always the release date trumps everything else ... Vista was a rare case that didn't happen, just too many bugs and 5 years of development.

So in many ways, software is really never anything other than "Beta" ... it's just a word.

Although I agree with Jim S., a "released" product (with bugs) can have feature changes that will operate differently in the release vs. preview builds ... that's a fairly common practice for minor adjustments.  So wait and see for Release build is wise advice.

Cheers, Rob.

The latest build was released today, and it's the RTM build. I can tell all of you that you are not able to select updates in Windows 10, whether you have Home or Pro editions.

Basically, my number one question is...does all sims (FS9,XPX,FSX:MS, and P3D v2.4 work...without any CTD's, with this RTM maybe?  That's my main concern. I am not a gamer...I am a simmer...

Post Edit: Here is good news for those with 400,500,600 series cards..DX12 is going to work for you:

OS and GPU support

One of the surprise announcements at the show is that Nvidia will support DX12 on every Fermi, Kepler, and Maxwell-class GPU. That means nearly every GTX 400, 500, and 600 series card will be supported. Interestingly, AMD isn’t necessarily following suit — the company has indicated that it will support DX12 on all GCN-based hardware, but hasn’t indicated if HD 6000 or HD 5000 cards will be included in that.

NVIDIA: Kepler, Fermi, Maxwell

NVIDIA confirmed that all Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell GPUs will support DirectX 12. We don’t know whether this is a 100% API support or just a feature set support, however it does mean that DX12 is more like an extension to DX11 rather than completely new API, which would require hardware implementation.

And then because MS is ssooooooooo sure of themselves that they can change this on the the first patch Tuesday.
