I have to ask what is Microsoft idea behind not allowing users to control updates in Windows 10?

I dont have a problem with it unless - the only thing I do want to have control over is my video driver from what I have seen its more of an inconvenience than anything else I have to uninstall new driver if I want to use one thats a bit older which I have done and all is fine - I have always updated windows and never had a problem so this wont be much different for me anyway

Exactly!

I have no problem with automatic security updates... I just don't want automatic driver updates!!!

Don't tip the boat over, Doug!!

But for how long can those Updates be deferred?

And I believe this applies to all updates, both system files and apps.  As Diego stated earlier, don't see any way to pick and choose the updates to defer.

One more thing... with the Windows Insider program continuing after GA, all system and app updates will be tested by millions of Windows Insiders before being pumped out to the masses.  This is a far wider range of testers than Microsoft has ever had in the past.  I believe this will lessen problems for those receiving the official updates, but definitely understand it won't catch them all.  Just a thought.

If any of you have any questions regarding Windows 10, or the updates scheme, or the free upgrade, or compatability, or anything, I suggest you make a post here:

A MS employee has been answering questions about W10 all day today. There's lots of good information in this post.

I just don't like turning on my computer to find that FSX or P3D is all of the sudden broken. Unfortunately with the relative small size of the community compared to other  "games" I doubt a lot of testing will happen on our sims before they push out updates. I hope this will not be a common thing.

Then don't use Win 10.

Just wondering out loud - what ever happened to Linux? I would think that by now, people would be running damn near everything MS within Linux. Has Linux just frittered away to the programmer/techie stratosphere? Wouldn't it be nice to have open-source and no Microsoft pulling all the strings?

Well, one can dream!

Rich, That could get a bit annoying if it happens every Tuesday.

About the video drivers, at least on Window 7 i never get presented with the option of installing them, unless it's a clean install and the system doesn't have any drivers.  Only then does MS update ask if i want to install some ancient WHQL driver.

I suspect that MS won't push those out unless it doesn't detect an existing driver.

An update to my post... according to Microsoft (link), even if you elect to defer updates in Pro/Enterprise, security updates will continue to be updated automatically.  Just "new Windows features" will be deferred.

Neither of my Window 7 PCs have ever updated any drivers. I have them set to automatic downloads.
