August 6, 201510 yr Compared to Haswell-E the memcontroller is stronger on Skylake , sweetspot would be 3400mhz cl15 for 24/7. Faster mems make difference Its the same on Haswell, if you lock at FSXMark11 tread . Its a huge diff between 1600 cl9 to 2800 cl10 that i run on Haswell approx 6-8%. Asume you go for 3400mhz or faster 6-8% more is possible. In my case 4770k @5ghz 2800mhz cl10 probaly a get at least 10-12% gain with a 6700k @5ghz 3600 cl16 or 3400 cl14. Ipc SandyBridge - IvyBridge was the same 6% but you gain a 10-12% faster system with fast 2800mhz mems on the Ivy , Sandy was only hitting 2133. Ivy- Haswell no gain on memspeed Max 2% the ivy Haswell memcontrollers was close. Conclusion with decent mems 10% , 6% with 2133 and up to 15% with 4000mhz or more when they go faster. For fligtsim the skylake is the way to go, i went from SB, Ivy,Haswell and now Skylake. Sandy Ivy Haswell E CPUs was not a hit for fligtsim mostly for poor Overclocking, my last E is a 5960x at 4.8ghz (J batch ) thats my personal thougts , have not seen any good FSXMark11 bench with them, i tried they ar not close to my 4770k,4790k,4670k wasted Money for fligtsim . http://

August 6, 201510 yr Currently on a 2500k, looks like a 15-20% improvement at stock speed? Worth the $1000 new computer upgrade? http://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-intel_core_i5_2500k-5-vs-intel_core_i5_6600k-521 Also, those 15-20% improvements don't automatically translate to a 15-20% improvement in FSX. Most tests are synthetic and the real-world gaming tests of the new Skylake series actually show some degradation in gaming performance compared to equivalent predecessors. That doesn't bode well for single-thread intensive legacy software, like FSX. Hate to be a neghead but it would be nice if we had a whole new simulator platform that actually took advantage of the power of modern multi-core/-thread CPU's and GPU's instead of having to constantly brute-forcing decades old code. Imagine something that was DX12 native, it would run well on almost any multi-core hardware as long as you had a decent GPU.

At the time FSX and older programs were using DirectX 9 and 10, which used single threaded rendering. You could use multi-threaded rendering for DX9 and DX10, but it came at quite an overhead (FPS) cost. Unlike DirectX 11 and 12, which can issue draw calls with less CPU overhead. There's no way to update FSX with DirectX 12, because Microsoft only had four years of support for FSX and only planned on DirectX 9 and 10 for support. DTG did manage to refactor FSX's code and recompile it with the latest VC redistributables. I think the problem isn't so much with the code, but rather the add-ons. Some of these add-ons are pushing 1500 draw calls, which doesn't include all the scenery FSX needs to draw. Just the plane itself. Current gen gaming engines have a limit of 2000 draw calls (CryEngine 3). They don't even come close to the amount of stuff FSX needs to render. Jeff Thomson
August 7, 201510 yr Skylake probably not worth it for anything after Ivy bridge series just draining your bank account and better off waiting for the next flight sim or moving over to Xplane.

August 7, 201510 yr Skylake probably not worth it for anything after Ivy bridge series just draining your bank account and better off waiting for the next flight sim or moving over to Xplane. True enough. Unless wireless charging, wireless data streaming and the other features of Skylake floats your boat. For me, on Ivy and requiring a new PC it's all systems go.

August 7, 201510 yr Nothing has changed for FSX users with these new CPUs... Not worth it if you have a CPU from 2012 or newer... Jordi Vidal
