P3Dv3 - Prepar3D.cfg settings?

Featured Replies

What are the tweeks that we can use for this file?\

1) to reduce blurries

2) to reduce stutters

anything else?

I did not add any config entries of my own..until I had blurries so I had to add Affinity mask=15 and it improved a lot (blurries I mean)

Not sure if these are required

[bUFFERPOOLS]
UsePools=1
PoolSize=5000000

FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33

I had horrendous stutters that made my flights a nightmare without an AffinityMask option.

However, put in AffinityMask = 84 for my Intel I7-2600K and it runs smooth now.

Also, I increased Texture_Bandwidth_Mult from 30 to 45 to account for my frame lock increasing to 30 FPS instead of the default 20.

Bufferpools has no effect at all and FFTF mostly has, imho, a placebo effect because most people use LOWER numbers to fight blurries while in fact lower numbers should give more blurries...

I myself do NOT TWEAK the cfg at all, at least not for performance!

An add on put Affinity mask in my cfg , and the blurries were horrible. I deleted it, and everything back to normal.

Affinity mask always creates blurries for me to the point where autogen doesn't even load. Through lots of testing on my system I found Hyperthreading = off and no affinity mask = best fps and texture loading.

However I have put the fiber frame fraction 0.01 in the cfg as this does increase frames but texture loading takes a slight hit as its a bit slower.

With it set up like this I get 30fps @ aerosoft EGLL, orbx global, vector, England, MT6 @ 15%, in the airbus, 777 and NGX. I do not have all my scenery sliders to the right though.

I'm running a 4790k @ 4.7GHZ with a GTX 970.

I always had to run FFTF=0.1 or lower in v2.5 to get rid of noticeable stuttering, even with default scenery and textures.

With v3, for me the sim runs absolutely smooth right of the "box" - no tweaks to the cfg required.  This is with many sliders maxed, ASN running with mac cloud coverage and 5 layers, etc.

It may be prudent to look at video drivers and other such causes before messing with the cfg file.

Now THAT is a wise statement!

What are the tweeks...AffinityMask...

AffinityMasks can't be discussed without knowing the required CPU details. What is your CPU and do you have HyperThreading enabled?

True

I have 4 cores and not HT

I have 4 cores and not HT

In that case, AM=15 is equivalent to AM=0 is equivalent to no [JOBSCHEDULER] section, which is recommended for your CPU with HT disabled - so far so good!

What tweeks do I need to do to increase texture load? I get black buildings for a while and it slowly loads the skin ..how do I speed that up?

Any ideas?

Can you enable HT? If so try that with an AM=254. Texture res at medium, 4 samples AA, aniso 4x. Turn down scenery objects, detail radius, water effects, tessellation, mesh and texture, turn down shadows, and clouds, turn down cloud draw distance and traffic.

Doesn't v3 take care of AM itself...? I forgot if I have HT on or off but if I have one or the other, do I really have to edit the cfg? I thought the last version of P3D took care of this.
