October 7, 201510 yr No J I added 254 and got a good FPS boost. P3D does not need a AM but try it out before coming to a conclusion. I trust Steve 100% when it comes to AM. With HT on I was running 84 and it ran better and a FPS increase, I did not get black squares, but there was a lag when switching to outside view. I tried AM 254 and everything is now instant. The only thing Ive added to v3 is the AM 254. From memory It leaves core 0 free and I kick ASN off core 1. The problem with these forums is a huge amount of miss information, not on purpose just people read wrong info and take it as being right. FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 is the default setting, if you have no entry that is whats set by default. The .XX is the time spent per second to load textures. If you have good texture loading you can lower it and in return you will get more FPS, e.g. 0.10 or the extreme and worth a try if you only running Global/vector striped down, 0.01. Or try running unlimited as that is like 0.01. If you get bad texture loading with no entry then your simply pushing the sim to hard for your spec. Here was the test with and with out. Like anything else always test yourself as what can work for one does not mean it will work for another. October 7, 201510 yr Easy to check what AM P3D v3 is using. I guess it's no need to put it into the config-file. P3D knows the best by itself. Spirit
October 7, 201510 yr Hm, ok, well, since I am in testing mode right now I might as well give HT on and AM=254 a try. Thanks for the detailed info, David! Easy to check what AM P3D v3 is using. October 7, 201510 yr Commercial Member With HT enabled, each core runs as two logical processors that compete for throughput on that core. So we use an AM in that situation with certain multi threaded programs, like FSX and P3D, so that certain of their own processes do not compete for throughput of a core.. October 8, 201510 yr I'm doing my first flight in P3D v3.0 and am noticing some minor stutters every 60-90 seconds. They seem more significant on the ground, around addon-scenery, and when moving within the sim. I have an i7 4790K, so I believe hyperthreading is enabled by default. Based on this, what would be my go-to AM setting, if any? Moreover, is there any use in inserting an FFT and/or optimize_parts entry (or any other tweak, for that matter) into my .cfg, or should I limited myself to only an AM entry. Thanks much. -Ben https://www.youtube.com/user/vertighoFS http://www.twitch.tv/vertigho/profile
October 8, 201510 yr Commercial Member minor stutters every 60-90 seconds... Doesn't seem like an AM or FFTF situation, try with traffic off and retest. If your HT is enabled then for your "go-to AM setting" use 254 or 253. To give up a core for ASN try an AM of 248 or 244. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

To give up a core for ASN try an AM of 248 or 244. Great, many thanks. Up at FL400 and still noticing a minor hiccup, where the sim pauses/stutters for roughly half-a-second or so. Will see about throwing an AM change and going from there. Save optimize_parts and/or FFT for a later time, if ever... may not need them at all. One other question while I'm thinking of it -- any use in locking a framerate? Have heard mixed suggestions on this one. Some say unlimited (which is my current setting) whilst others suggest locking it around 30 FPS. Any thoughts on this? AM=244 (11110100) is working well for me on a 4790K, HT On. October 8, 201510 yr In that case, AM=15 is equivalent to AM=0 is equivalent to no [JOBSCHEDULER] section, which is recommended for your CPU with HT disabled - so far so good! Hey Steve, I have hyperthreading on. Also just purchased a 980ti as my former graphics card was shy of the recommended VRam for P3D v3. I currently have AM set at 254. CPU is a 4770K running at 4.4GHz. Can you point me to a place where I can recall the steps required to determine the optimum AM for my setup? Thanks Regards, Graham Derreck CYMM

Would love to see how much that 980Ti has over my 970´s . I am not sure i see any different with HT=ON and AM=254 . Have you tried HT=off ? i seemed to have at least same FPS Michael Moe Michael Moe
October 8, 201510 yr Might be a bit of topic, but the best "stutter reduction measure" for me was moving ASN off the sim PC and running it on a seperate PC over the network. AM settings for me seem to be mostly placebo effects. But that's just my very personal experience. YMMV. @David: Add the parameters to the Prepar3d.cfg so that the display text also shows the average fps and redo your test above. I'm pretty sure that you will see almost no impact of the AM setting on average fps. But maybe I'm wrong... [email protected] ∣ Asus ROG Strix B650E-E ∣ 64Gb@6000MT ∣ NVidia 5090 FE
