November 29, 201510 yr Moderator Just wondering how the VAS savings and FPS are versus v2 before I spend the $10 to upgrade to the latest. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
November 29, 201510 yr Froogle on this week's Youtube mentioned some people are saying they do not see a big difference between v2 and v3 but I wonder if the real change is better vas? I have not tried it.
November 30, 201510 yr Author Moderator I got it today. I can't really tell much difference to be honest as I didn't use v2 that much. However the FPS do seem a little better in v3 and I think they decreased the draw calls as it doesn't take as long to render some of the textures on the main terminals when looking back at them when they weren't in view. One thing though is that they are using some 2048 textures that I will end up resizing to 1024 to lessen the load. Overall it's seems solid and worth the upgrade price, plus they included a tool to easily turn off some features. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 4, 201510 yr Moderator I was a bit put off by the very bright, almost dazzling ground textures. Are they really that bright? Will I need to purchase some Foster Grants at the same time? Ray (Cheshire, England). December 5, 201510 yr I picked it up and I definitely see a difference with the sharper looking graphics as well as a small boost in FPS. I believe that cmpbellsjc is correct in regards to the draw calls, as I no longer get that "domino falling effect" of textures loading, as I used to in the previous version. That alone is worth the $10 bucks to me. With the previous version, I would also see some sections of the scenery disappear and reappear depending on which direction I was viewing. I tested it out at one of the locations (the American Eagle staging area) and no longer had that issue. Finally, I did a quick scan of the surrounding scenery and it's definitely been re-done. The photo scenery textures are sharper and cleaner and the autogen is more abundant, better detailed and better situated. I need to do more flights around the scenery and check out all of the changes but I highly recommend it. Alexander Alonso
December 5, 201510 yr I've never had an issue with too few AI on the ground at v2 or v3 Miami, the place was and is always packed with traffic in my sim. V3 so far does look better, the taxiways no longer look like a hideous squiggly mess like they did with v2. I haven't done much more with it yet in terms of checking out night or approach lights with it in P3dv3. It's still no FlightBeam or FlyTampa release, but it's better than their last attempt. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
December 6, 201510 yr A few of us had the issue a few years back http://www.flycay.com/forums/showthread.php?5032-AF2-emty-Airport
December 7, 201510 yr Hmm interesting. Moot point I guess if it's working now, but did you check your AI aircraft that they have accurate wingspan set in the aircraft.cfg to fit the parking from the afcad? i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
February 14, 201610 yr What's the verdict on this? I can't find any reviews. Is it worth getting? I don't own V2. Orman
February 14, 201610 yr I skipped v3. V2 is too bright, poorly optimized, and frankly looks like something from 2008. Honestly I hope someone other than Latin VFR picks it up for DTG FS11. They should have provided as a free update, so there's that as well...
February 14, 201610 yr Thanks for the input. Flightbeam is looking into another scenery now that Frankfurt is being postponed or possibly not done at all. Maybe they'll take on Miami? Orman
February 15, 201610 yr The graphics are great, and I would recommend putting on directx10 for full frame capability. http://www.avsim.com/topic/483532-fsx-miami-helicopters-request/ @Okupton It's definitely worth getting, they added a lot of new content. Including ramps for the Palmetto Expressway, and more AI traffic especially at Landmark
