December 2, 201510 yr I wanted to know if I were to upgrade my current academic version to the professional, would I have to completely uninstall and then reinstall from scratch, or can I just install on top of my current one. I would hate to reinstall from scratch and have to re-do everything all over again such as reinstalling all my add-ons and reconfiguring, etc. ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU
December 2, 201510 yr did you go pro for the added features? If not, there is also the option of just doing nothing, and save you the touble. You have the pro license to show people when they come to your door -Roland
December 2, 201510 yr Author Well I am thinking of getting the professional version once 3.1 comes out for the military features. December 2, 201510 yr I just read this on the Prepar3d site... " The Academic License contains a watermark signifying the acceptable use of the license. The Academic license is provided at a discount for students. The Academic license enables the exact same functionality of the Professional version of Prepar3D." Why on earth do you want to pay $199.00 for what you already have, without a watermark? or the Professional Plus version for $2300.00? "The major difference is the Prepar3D Professional Plus has additional features specific for military training." (all quotes prom the Prepar3d site) Why not just add TacPac? (it's a lot cheaper that Pro Plus!!) Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
December 5, 201510 yr Author Let's just answer my question please. If I were to purchase the professional plus version, could I install on top of my academic version? Or would I have to completely uninstall first and then reinstall the new version? I'm hoping not, because I would hate to reinstall all my add-ons and reconfigure everything all over again. December 5, 201510 yr The Professional "PLUS" version, (that has the additional military training features), is not $200 - it is $2,300! That's quite a step up from the Academic version you now have. If you can afford that amount of money for a sim, you probably would want to invest in a dedicated computer system to run it! I don't know for sure, but based on the fact that changing versions of even the base product from 2.5 to 3.0 required a full install, I would think that going from Academic to Plus would also require a full install. You have to do a complete reinstall. To get the military stuff I think you need the Professional Plus, $2300. .

December 5, 201510 yr "Why on earth do you want to pay $199.00 for what you already have, without a watermark?" Well apparently he is not a middle aged "academic student" that's why, and people wonder why professional software is expensive. I paid $199 because as I am not an "academic student" and would like to see LM continue to improve and support the product going forward.I guess I must have been naive when I purchased the software at full price or should have enrolled in a local college "paper airplane class". Gary Stewart

They are a bit more demanding than your "paper airplane " suggestion, however. Just Google the topic.
