PF3 ATC Program thoughts

Ouch! 6000 all the way to BOGNA would not be realistic in the real world. The restriction is only there for safety. ATC will always clear aircraft higher asap. I can't envisage a situation where an aircraft would be held at 6000 for the entirety of the SID.

Agreed! I actually lifted the restriction one wypt early at 30DME. Sometimes PF3 will hold me all the way and sometimes clear me to climb before.

Have a closer look at my sig Ray.

Do you have to 'tweak' each plan before flying to remove such restrictions? I would have hoped the program would do that automatically maybe with a random distance factor so as not to be predictable.

If you mean you're a beta tester I have noted that.  But I'm assuming that now PF3 has been released beta testing has finished except for some bug fixes.

Can you provide an example airport where this happens please? I do fly in the US with RC4 but only out of major airports. Once I have an airport I'll setup a flight in RC4 and see how it operates.

Ah, I read that as meaning that in real life towers (can/do) issue vectors ... not in RC4?

I don't recall anything other than Tower instructing "fly runway heading, cleared for takeoff" when the first waypoint is > 30nm.

Volo, I'm watching your sample video now. Is it correct that you would be given take-off clearance whilst still holding short? I would expect "Line up and wait" and only when the aircraft was lined up would the take-off clearance be issued.

I always thought that the clearance can be a lot earlier in some circumstances. At least it would make good sense to me. I've been in aircraft at less crowded airports when there wasn't even a hesitation between taxiing to and roaring down the runway for take-off. Maybe there were two instructions given in quick succession, but I would have thought that when things are relatively quiet then the Tower can take such 'short cuts'.

Possibly. The answer can probably be found by trying busier airports.

Hi Ray,

At certain airports yes you would be given take-off clearance in that manner and in fact at LIMZ the Tower does really do that. It depends on traffic though. I rejected a previous recording of the same fpl I made which did have line-up and wait. But I made some mistakes with the recording so it's been deleted.

Hi Pete,

I replied to Ray as well on this. LIMZ is a small regional airport and indeed the Tower does give take-off clearance exactly as does PF3. At busier times though you will get "line-up and wait" I deleted a previous recording that had that because of other errors.

Ah, in that case RC4 might be the one in error, and in real life Tower can and does sometimes issue vectors! I think that's what was being said -- it's an RC4 restriction not in PF3.

Hi Ray. In PF3 you can add a "SID completed" altitude for each individual airport runway. So for example at EGLL I have set 6000 for each runway. You only need do this once and it is saved. What this means is that if you elect to fly a SID departure your initial clearance will be 6000. After you reach 6000, you will shortly be cleared to a higher FL even though you may still be navigating your SID.

The higher altitudes/FLs you will be cleared to (intermediate ones before filed cruise FL) will be random. sometimes you may get an early clearance to cruise, other times you may have to level off a few times before further clearance. If you wish to be at a certain intermediate altitude/FL at a certain point in your climb, you can set that up in your flightplan, but that is optional.

What Peter has written to you above is also explained in the PF3 manual. It's all there in pink and purple!!

Reading all the pages of this forum, i think we all want PF3 to succeed as it is a good program with great voices and correct phrasology. I think most of us are bit disappointed with PF3 as it does not read AIRAC data. Had it done  that and use it automatically to vector, we would have been happy. I dont understand much of programming but this is not unachievable task as other programs are already using AIRAC.

Other thing is to establish directl ink to external weather program. It will insert most accurate and updated weather to identify coeerect runway in use.

Can developers think of making thse as an update? If so, it can be as real as it can get in sim world.

Having not used the other programs, can you tell me how they deal with the examples of the SID in the LIMF BOGNA 1M SID or the EGLL SIDS where the airac will contain the 6000 feet restriction all the way to the end of the SID, but in practice one would expect to be cleared to a higher FL earlier ?

I only know of one ATC programme that will simulate that! B)

Personally I'm glad it uses the actual sim data-this is not always the same as AIRAC data revisions and so I've had issues with apporaches using ATC and addons that depend heavily on AIRAC data-also certain airfields that are closed/non functional in the AIRAC are no longer available to use if you depend on AIRAC.

Wow thats pretty cool - thanks

If you get a chance can you do a 43 mile short video on vfr scenario from KBOS RWY 22R to KPVD RWY 05 with PF3 would appreciate it much -  thank you

Hi Richard.

I'll try-but no promises!

I have very little free time for simming  and fly IFR with heavy metal mainly.

PF3 allows me to take off, warp to my destination and land before my kids and wife start screaming at me for ignoring them!

No worries Jay much appreciated - take your time off to work for me :(
