Fed up with my download

Featured Replies

I'm just fed up with Flight 1 and their download procedures and am wondering if I'm the only one. I go to any other store and there are no problems. I buy an add on download it , use it, end of story.

I purchased Ultimate Traffic 2 , I downloaded their ' special ' down-loader. After several attempts it finally downloaded UT2. I disabled Windows Firewall, Nod 32, even Malware bytes.

In compatibility mode I chose Windows 7 ( I have Windows 10 ) which works with everything else I have. Under ' Security ' I added ' Everyone '. and I included ' Administrator Rights '. So I go to open it , I hear the tower fans powering up , but nothing happens. I really don't know what else to do.

Hi jetsmell

Same experience - I feel your pain. I now use FlashGet for all my large downloads. Once you get used to how to use it, it's very good and very reliable. Been using for over 2 years now and never let me down. I can even interrupt a large download like ORBX Global, shut PC down, go out for something, come back home, start PC, start FlashGet and it'll carry on as if nothing has happened. I like it.

Not just with downloading:  Ever try to do a re-install with Flight1 products?

I bought a couple of aircraft from Flight1 this past week and absolutely no download, install issues, etc..  Same with previous purchases.

Perhaps I've been lucky, but in this big-wide world of flight sims what works for one can be an epic fail for someone else.

Sorry to hear about your issues  BTW, while not specifically Flight1 related is you flight sim outside of the Program Files (x86) directory?

Perhaps it's a placebo effect, but I've had zero install issues since I put my flight sime files in their own directory.

I'm on the other side of the fence, I came back to the hobby after 4 years or so of a hiatus, reinstalled all my add-ons purchased years ago without a hitch whatsoever, i was quite impressed as i haven't used the system in years yet all my add-ons purchased installed without any issues at all.

P.S  although i didn't use their "installer", i just used the other option available on their site, "main server download" i believe it is.

" BTW, while not specifically Flight1 related is you flight sim outside of the Program Files (x86) directory? "  It's outside of C Drive.

I've had "issues" as well. I recently had to reinstall the GTN750 and I ran into a reactivate limit thingee.  Quite frankly I find their procedures all a pain as well.

I understand that this stuff is most likely for security reasons but that still doesn't mean its not a pain.

I wonder what would happen if they go out of business, how will products be supported, reinstalled, reactivated?  Just saying.

Due to having to have some of Their products I have to live with it I guess

Downloading from Flight1 has never been an issue for me and the install process while a bit of a pain is still simple and fast.

After several more attempts I was finally able to get to the payment page. That went well and was able to finally able to download UT2. It brought up the UT2 pop up that shows the various things that can be done . I then went ahead and downloaded the power pack and the summer of 2013.
Now nothing works again. I get a quick pop up that reads ; Error setting up flight options. Is not set as an instance to an object. THE NIGHTMARE CONTINUES !

Stopped buying downloads through Flight 1 about 8 years ago.  Only bought their boxed products, which were "headache" free.

As download installers go I think the "crown" must go to Earth Simulations for "nightmares", quite possibly one of the reasons helping to put them out of business.  Flight 1 in my book run to second place.

It's all about copyright paranoia I guess, which you can't really blame them for....just leave me out of the equation.  I can live without.

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

funny have had very little trouble downloading or re downloading  their products, but I have not purchased from them for about 8 yrs, so thing may have changed, sadly their attitude towards P3d and its users left a bad taste in my mouth and the word "paranoia" is a perfect description of their attitude towards P3d in my humble mind

I've been using Flight1 installers for years, with dozens and dozens of different add-on products from FS9 right through P3D, and never had any problems at all. As long as you keep the license key files in a secure place on your hard drive, re-installation is a breeze.

For very large files (like UTX) Flight 1 does have their own download manager (I forget what it is called, but there is a link to it on the UT product pages). The manager will handle the download of large files ensuring that they come through error-free.

I never had a problem with Flight 1 Installers either,  For me its just click, Download and Install.  Sometimes i might have to reactivate my Key, in that case i use the Instant facility they have on the support page, takes seconds and you have your new key

I avoid them at all costs.  I got a new SSD and had to reinstall FSX-SE.  All other downloads from multiple vendors was simple and painless.  For the GTN I had to redownload through F1 and it was a battle royale.  It literally took me days to get done because I was missing a credit card number of an older card.  I ended up sending them several scathing letters but they didn't seem to care at all.  Lesson here is unless the produce is exclusive to F1 buy it elsewhere and seriously consider if you want it at all.
