Wrap around concave screen maybe, but even that I'd be looking smaller than 55".   I have a 55" flat screen TV and sit 8 feet from it for TV/movies.  Sitting directly in front of it, maybe 24" away, sounds awful quite frankly.  You're happy though which is the main thing for you ;o)

To be precise  90cm (35') .    I'm not sold on the curve idea.  Apart from the fact that they are much more expensive.

I do all my flying online on Vatsim in the NGX and with ASN, FTX Global, openLC, Vector and mostly big payware airports such as the new FTX Stockholm-Arlanda I'm usually somewhere between 40-50 FPS.

by the way, why do mention 30Hz , Rob.  I know your an expert on all things Flightsim and wondering if that has a special reason ...  I've got mine at 60Hz is there a downside to that ?

No downside to 60hz IF you can sustain over 60 FPS in all cases.  30Hz just means you only have to sustain 30 FPS in all cases which means more higher graphics settings can be used.

Cheers, Rob.

Rob, that's interesting.  I usually use 60Hz., but thought I would try 30Hz. and it seemed smoother at 60.  Any advice there?  I'm using 50" 4K Samsung 6500 Series, 980Ti..

Thanks,

Jeff

...well I've got my sim set at 31 FPS and the TV and Graphics card set at 60Hz...

would I be better running those at 30Hz and putting the sim frames at 30FPS.

There is a HDMI UHD mode on the TV which sets at 4.4.4 or 4.2.2 @50p or 60p although I haven't figured out how to get the 4.4.4 working yet....

PS  I don't really know what the 4.4.4  4.2.2 actually mean, guessing its a quality setting...  I really should take time off flightsim and catch up with google...

Well let's hope not since you bought a flat screen...

Here's a layout of your 55" [violet] at 35" viewing distance, my 24" [orange] at my 25" viewing distance, and a Samsung 34" curved screen [$999 retail] set at a viewing distance such that the viewing angle is the same as what you have now.  These are a 21:9 aspect ratio so I have no idea what that might be like for flight simulation, but it seems could be pretty cool, just not sure what happens w/ panels at this ratio.  Resolution is 3440x1440, whereas my current Dell is 1920x1200.  You've got me thinking now Eric this curved screen unless panels don't work looks pretty ideal.

85" 8K monitor ... it's the only way to fly ... no AA required ... they go on up to 110"

So don't get too settled in with 4K.  We do however need some good video cards from AMD or nVidia to make that work well in P3D.

Don't ya just love progress.

Cheers, Rob.

EDIT: now try to make 8K work on your laptop or mobile device or console ... good luck!  The desktop PC is far far far from dead as it continues to increase the visual difference/gap between mobile.

I'm using a 48" curved Samsung screen (TV) and IMO that is one of the best investments I did in a long time for my flight simming experience.

First of all I'm not messing around with any SGSS or other AA techniques anymore and still find the IQ perfectly fine. Then the size of the screen in combination with the curved design really makes it feel like I'm actually in the v/c in a way I never experienced before. I have the TV at approx 3 feet distance and using a single 980Ti.

Couldn't be more happy with my display setup!

What about the windows desktop - how weird does that get that is a concern of mine 40" is the largest I would go no room nor do I want to sit a mile away from screen - I have a 32" Benq right now

I reset NVI to NVidia default for P3D - use default settings in NVCC. So far so good. I've only had a few short flights but no shimmering and the AA is very good - running 2560x1440 on 28" dual monitors.

I run SLI - noticed that in similar settings my GPU usage % dropped. Sim smooth as silk at 20fps(locked).

I expect as I go through different a/c I'll find some where the panels shimmer and/or the AA is awful but so far so good. A noticeable improvement in IQ and performance.

I'm running the desktop in 4K as well. However I changed the size of text, apps etc in Windows to 200% which suits me fine.

I guess it might take a bit getting used to this size of the screen when working on the desktop but now it feels like the most natural thing to me.

Rob, referring back to my post #33 above, I'm running P3Dv3.1 locked at 30, triple buffering, and V-sync (adaptive, 1/2 refresh rate).  Sorry, but I couldn't edit first post anymore. BTW, that is very irritating.  I don't know why they time-out the edit function.

Thanks,

Jeff

Thats what I thought guess you have to take the good with the bad and have to decide if I am willing to do that - I guess with the 40" it may not be a big deal anything bigger I would probably have issue with that

Well looked it up and changed setting in nVidia control panel from RGB to ycbcr444 and I think thats it...  looks better...  helps with the bloom and light.  Sticking with 60Hz at the moment

I'm on a very very similar setup...

Could you please share your in game Display settings?

I'm always looking to try new ones...
