CJ2 First Impressions

Hey guys I think the FLC works pretty good. There is a bit of misunderstanding about when and how to use it. You can change the speed with the wheel on the AP. What Noone seems to understand is that in most cases you need to add thrust for the FLC to kick in and retard thrust if using FLC for descents. None of them work well at altitude and none are designed to set and forget.

I think this one is real close to the real one. The Flight Safety PTM explains it quite well and this CJ2 works like FSI describes it. I know the AP speed wheel works on my system with VS and FLC.

My WiFi router got fried last night by a nearby lightning strike so I am using my phone hot spot to send this. I will copy the info from the PTM and test it out during the next week or so. I will try to upload a tested short tutorial for using FLC in the CJ2 to the library.

For now, just don't take all these posts as facts or how it should work as factual.

Ray

Thanks Ray looking forward to it - wealth of information

What did you mean by this - AP is autopilot I would assume which has nothing to do with speed ?

Richard,

The AP is located on a small panel at the rear of the center console, called the ACP. This panel has a small trim wheel used to dial up or down speeds for the VS and FLC, a couple of buttons, and the FD and AP mode activation switches.. Left side of Autopilot Control Panel is the trim wheel I referred to. Yep, it is for Pitch, VS, and FLC speed selections.

I guess you were lucky only the Router got fried.
Some years ago we lost most appliances and brand new TV due to lightning, it was pouring also and my neighbor got a tree added to his rooftop.

Also lost a one year old Samsung Smart Plasma, a 39 in Samsung guest room TV and my Directv DVR and a couple of Dtv satellite boxes. Duh.

Finally, the VNAV function is completely useless. The altitude constraints will reset to 28,000 if you change the STAR or Approach, and would have to be re-programmed.

The altitudes should be in the Navdata.

Which STAR / Approach e.g., that you selected gave wrong data (28000)?

FLCH: Works fairly well, but once you set FLCH to a certain speed, you can't adjust that speed without disarming the A/P, re-trimming the plane to a new speed/climb rate, then reactivate the A/P and select FLCH. Seems to me you should be able to increase/decrease speed, and the plane would adjust, but maybe that's not how the real deal operates.

You can change the speed on the 2D autopilot for now (Shift+3), hopefully they'll fix the VC mounted wheel in a patch.

What I mean is if you program your VNAV altitudes, then add a STAR/Approach, it resets your programmed VNAV altitudes back to 28k. The STAR/Approach altitudes ender correctly, but everything else in the flight plan gets reset.

Can you give a flight plan example of when you program the VNAV altitudes?

Are you doing this prior to departure?

I just purchased CJ2.

Set up FSUIPC buttons / axis etc all ok

EZDOK - OK

Looks great.

I did a plan /  FMS working good

KSAN RW27 PEBLE6 DEP

SLI TRANS

KBUR ILS8 SMO TRANS

Looks good / departure intercepts / fixes are ok and all altitude restrictions are ok.

Have to go read the docs now.

Not that much to read.

The visual model is typical Carenado... and it is rather frame rate friendly.

I only wish they had chosen to do the CJ2+ instead of the CJ2... newer Collins radio heads and a cleaner panel had they done so.

Hi Folks,

I've Been following along with interest as the CJ is my favorite biz jet - true bug reports actually seem minimal - the only thing that concerns me is the report that someone posted where it doesn't fly properly at cruise altitude... Is that truly the case and is there any fix in the works ???

Thanks...

Hello Scott,

The Citations have a lot of potential. This one especially, because it actually exists on my desktop, all the others are somewhere short of completion. I think this CJ2 is close enough to get excited about for sure. I am a big fan of the GTN750 installations and this one could be the best yet. The location in the lower half of the MFD is an absolutely perfect location and the size is as large as one could expect in a panel. I am not holding my breath waiting for Carenado to provide an update, however, I do expect at least one to fix a few of the basic mistakes.

I initially thought the cruise speeds were low but I think it might just be that my throttles are not putting out 100% (My max output is 97%). When I move the throttles to full power with my mouse or use F4 for 100% the cruise speed is almost book speed. Even closer than we could expect for $40. (408 kts/vs 410 book) Fuel Flow was not that close but not that far off either. So, I'm waiting to learn how to use FSUIPC to fine tune the calibration of the X52 Pro throttle before I go on record with any more about any potential speed issue.

The textures are outstanding inside and out and also in the cabin.

I am working on the Avsim review, but I have learned that it does no good to rush them out so I am enjoying the flying, learning the systems, and have started to dabble in the repaints. Here is my effort over the weekend when I was offline for 3 days. http://www.avsim.com/topic/485656-new-g-edcm-cj2-repaint-almost-ready/?p=3393393
