10.50b is out!

I did exactly that (v3 vs. default) but the difference is not very obvious. I had some new - nice - art assets but Manhatten didn't look like anything that was posted on the dev blog or seen during the presentation. Basically too "flat".

Unfortunately a good amount of autogen is "still" without lit textures and so you have sometimes a rather huge area (40 clustered building) were it is pitch black at night/evening. Looks very strange. Not sure what the artists intend by that. Can't be too hard to throw in some lit textures...

  • Sorry, but I am absolutely sure, you are NOT looking at default autogen here, but instead at some other add-on scenery (w2xp, osm2xp or hand made). The buildings are too specific (they are models of m

Can you show a screenshot, please?

I installed a second copy of XPX. I don't see any of the new autogen. I did a test flight over Manhattan NY. It looks exactly like 10.45. Anybody seeing the new autogen ?

I have the same issue. Some people seem to get it though.

I'll try later, not at home now.

I think the buildings appearing will depend to the stored "height" information in the used OSM data. Default X-Plane has very old OSM data - quite likely there are only few buildings in Manhattan tagged with "height" - so you won´t see the new autogen.

Download the latest HDScenery from AlpilotX - he is using more recent OSM data and that might affect your buildings... Just a hunch, I haven´t tested that myself.

In the end it comes down to crowdsourcing, again. If you want to help in the long run, go tagging in OSM :-)

I agree and was going to suggest the same. While having a bigger library of autogen buildings is great, it won't do much good unless it's actually being used by the underlying scenery.

Laminar haven't updated the base scenery at all since XP10 first came out. Fortunately we have people like AlpilotX who are developing higher quality scenery for free.

I wonder if in Laminar's presentation a much more current base scenery was used for showing the Manhattan screenshot.

That a base scenery recut is planned was announced years ago... I wonder if that will happen before X-Plane 11 is available. (At the moment, I use HD Mesh v3 everywhere it is available, but still...)

I tested with and without the HD V3 mesh ... no new Autogen in Manhattan. (No other scenery was used either).

Some users do get the new Autogen though... interesting.

In terms of in how far the HD mesh influences the displayed Autogen, Andras should be of help.

However I am sure that the new Autogen doesn't require ANY other scenery, just a vanilla X-Plane 10.50b1.

I filed a bug, let's see what Ben says.

Strobe lights dazzle when in clouds or fog is back! (Or was it already there?).

Also, this may be of interest to Jcomm:

"Global plugin tropopause values are now read/writeable to plugins. Tropopause variables allows to squeeze or stretch the stratosphere depending on where the the troposphere actually begins. Tropopause altitude and troposphere temperature allow a much better weather depiction in non-mid latitudes (polar and tropical regions)."

"Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

That could be true, Mario!

No way they would lenghtly tease this in the 10.50 presentation and then leave it out of the release...

I talked about a recut -- not about the autogen. It was just (also my) speculation that both are related.

Some users do get the new Autogen, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with the recut.

Autogen locations, heights etc are built into the DSF files. If you are using HD Mesh, then my guess is that you may see some new artwork, but since the tile hasn't been recut, there will be no difference with heights (but there will be new buildings). For people not seeing the updated New York, try disabling HD Mesh and see if it works
