Xplane 11 beta, I'm impressed...

Stunning shots Murmur, looking forward to your experiments...

And yes that river running through houses kills instantly any realism that the better weather can offer in PR3d.

Still some ORBX and 29 detailed airports are a level above anything available in XP. I really hope they will considering porting scenery to XP, well I'm confident they will as soon as they realize a new market is going to open. FSX users were a bit saturated from the tons od addons available there while XP ones are thirsty of high quality scenery.

The XP shot looks much more modern and is a much clearer representation.

I'm really not sure about that to be honest. They both look like iterations on very old tech to me, with neither shining compared to modern PC and console game titles, which do use far more advanced rendering technology. What you are seeing in P3D above is very broad brush world or continent covering, rather than a more detailed localization, which is obviously available.

I have all the add ons you are displaying there in P3D (+ Vector as well). I know what it's showing and how it all works.

If you think the XP picture isn't a much cleaner representation in how it handles textures, buildings, roads, and airports along with their intersections and presentation, I'm not sure what to say. Everyone sees things differently I guess.

The XP shot is also default while the P3D shot is several hundred in add ons being shown. And this isn't even factoring in the differences in night lighting, road traffic, reflections, etc.

I'm not trying to bag on P3D. It's still installed on my system (I don't even have XP10 installed anymore). But it's got a ton of issues a lot of people don't see or don't want to see.

Joke post?

Okay, this is tedious.

The XP defence force is out and in full swing, and I really don't care that much about any of this to be honest.

I bought XP11 yesterday BTW but you XP fanbois really are the pits (as bad as FSX  ) so I'll use it in private along side my other sims, but steer well clear of the 'community' In fact I'll not comment on XP again, just in case a user gets butt-hurt. :vava:

I don't know, I think the last X-Plane version is a big step forward and I see it finally on par, more or less, with other modern games (keeping also in mind that a flight simulator has different requirements compared to other console games, even in terms of rendering tech). I can hardly imagine a vastly better rendering especially in such situations such as at night or at altitude, compared to what we have now:

Well, after all it's an X-Plane thread, moreover X-Plane has been just released so it's normal to see such heated discussions for a while.

I guess you haven't seen the FSX guys posting negative comments about X-Plane in the X-Plane forums.

i installed orthoxp, i have been building the major cities, the outcome is amazing, anyone that wants them when i get done, i can create a dropbox link, the best quality for 1 tile is about 8gb,the whole state of florida is 26 tiles, i decided again whole states because of file sizes.what i have read so far the 5-6tb western digital black drives with 128mb of cache work great with x-plane 11, so i considered doing the whole u.s, with all the osm and overlay data, whats your thoughts about this? would anyone download it?

Wow, that is a LOT of data. I would be interested in one state though. Don't know which one yet. Washington and maybe Oregon come to mind (FTX PNW region). But maybe there are even nicer states.

I'm all in on X-Plane 11

I agree with Murmur on this one sorry but P3D aircraft do not look as realistic as his shot shows - screenshot artist candy land in X-Plane for sure - they look amazing

Brett could you post a screenshot of this orthoxp stuff and how does it work I am assuming its works out of the box with X-Plane 11 or is there some side effects until it is updated at some point like the other addons for X-Plane 11 - thanks

you XP fanbois really are the pits

C'mon, aren't we a community in search of constant improvement? We've come a long way but we will never be content with what we have. That's part of the fun and the pain for the developers. I think the new competitive mood which was created by the XP11 release is just what this hobby needed.

Hans

i am just hoping more people move to x-plane or at least run both xplane and p3d, it will encourage the developers to create more payware like active sky and airports, whats great about x-plane as far as scenery most is free.i have spent far less on x-plane then fsx and p3d, most of its been on heavy aircraft, rotate, jar design, flight factor, ixeg, pmdg, ssg.and so much easier to set x-plane up the way you want to play.

What's the joke? It's truth that the P3D shot is loaded with addons while the XP is default and still looks far superior.

I'm not an XP fanboi. I told you I don't even have XP10 installed anymore (I have zero XP products installed) and if you'd like, I can go through a list of issues it had to prove I'm not. Call me an equal opportunity hater of current sim technology I guess. I'm just calling it like I see it and you are welcome to see it differently. Nothing wrong with that.

I was trying to be diplomatic about the differences I saw, but I'll just be honest now since you want to go there. That P3D shot you posted looks bad in comparison. The city textures are a blurry mess that don't match the autogen. The roads are flat overlays. The city textures run right into the water. The wild variation in texture colors looks odd. There's random farm textures in the middle of the city and desert textures by the beach for no reason. The buildings and autogen have very low detail. The airport boundaries clash terribly with the surrounding scenery and look completely unnatural. The weird blue haze is not realistic at all. I could keep going.

XP11's textures meld much better and look like they belong together, the roads are 3d with signage and details like light poles, the lighting is global and much better, the autogen is correctly placed on underlying textures instead of looking like someone threw up, the airport boundaries look natural with the surrounding scenery, the view scale is much more realistic (it never looks like my real flights in P3D no matter what zoom level I set, always something out of whack), the autogen draw distance is much further. And that's just comparing those two pictures.

I'm sure XP11 has tons of issues as well (Lord knows that XP10 did, there's a reason I uninstalled it), but it'd be nice if some P3D users could admit to actual real advancement when it happens in other simulators. And XP11's visual presentation is much more advanced than P3D's both technically and aesthetically (how accurate it is is another argument). Anyone looking with an unbiased view can see that.

Yup I'm with yah - not bashing P3D of course but XP looks to me more realistic and thats huge to me so looking forward to a full fat XP-11 in the future

I'm a P3D major and will certainly remain one for the foreseeable future. However, I've been actively following XP10 and will follow XP11 (and AeroflyFS2, btw.), and I have to admit that XP11 is no doubt a big step forwards. As a VFR flyer I am notably impressed by the new autogen and its placement.

Kind regards, Michael

XP10 was good at screen shots, but in motion, I had a lot of issues with AA on the horizons (constant crawling no matter how high I set things). How it handled horizons was also just terrible. Even with RTH (it's like a shader plugin I guess?) that would allow turning of the horizon line, color, etc. you could never get it right. It was always a trade off.

Those are two major things I'm hopping XP11 addresses and at least with the horizon and haze, it seems to be fixed. I haven't noticed any crawling on the youtube videos, but I need to see for myself.
