Xplane 11 beta, I'm impressed...

Featured Replies

AA is still an issue for me in XP11. I can get rid of most of it using the highest AA setting, but this (together with high HDR) involves a framerate hit. Dialing it back two notches or so fps are acceptable (~30 fps) but shimmering gets disturbing. That shimmering is not unlike what we've seen in earlier P3D versions and to a degree is still present in P3D without NI SGSS.

This is using an EVGA GTX 970 4GB, 3440x1440 30Hz monitor.

Kind regards, Michael

C'mon, aren't we a community in search of constant improvement? We've come a long way but we will never be content with what we have. That's part of the fun and the pain for the developers. I think the new competitive mood which was created by the XP11 release is just what this hobby needed.

Woah!  Where did that quote come from??  I never said that!

Sorry, I copied it from your quote, not from a post from you. The quote was from Novation. Apologies for that!

I was driving my plane down the road and noticed that the stop lights actually work going from green to yellow to red. The cars do not stop but this is  detail that amazes me.

I don't know, I think the last X-Plane version is a big step forward and I see it finally on par, more or less, with other modern games (keeping also in mind that a flight simulator has different requirements compared to other console games, even in terms of rendering tech). I can hardly imagine a vastly better rendering especially in such situations such as at night or at altitude, compared to what we have now:

THAT has got to be one of the most, if not THE most realistic shot I've ever seen, in ANY simulator, in the 33 years the Good Lord has given me.

Well to get this level of details in a default scenery out of the box in a sim which renders the whole world, i m aware that autogen data depends on OSM data availability but im definitely impressed and i did try all the other sims before. This shot was taken near Lugano airport Switzerland with maximum autogen settings, go fly there its awesome!

Wish I had just kept the demo and not purchased it, loved flying at KSEA at night, but after purchasing the full beta I realize that that was all I cared for.

I understand, just realized I do not care for the graphics in the day at all, loved KSEA but thats about it.

Spoiled with FSX, then P3D.

Anyone know why I cant get Saitek cessna pro yoke to work in XP11 - buttons work but not control surfaces it appears to be calibrating fine also saitek throttle quadrant wont work either but saitek pedals do - not sure why they wont work - thanks

Hi Richard try these steps:

1- Xplane11--> Output--> delete the content of your preferences file (back it up first just in case)

2- if 1 did not work reinstall your saitek drivers for yoke and throttle

3- I Recommend you join XP11 facebook groups and ask there for support too

I have all the add ons you are displaying there in P3D (+ Vector as well). I know what it's showing and how it all works.

If you think the XP picture isn't a much cleaner representation in how it handles textures, buildings, roads, and airports along with their intersections and presentation, I'm not sure what to say. Everyone sees things differently I guess.

The XP shot is also default while the P3D shot is several hundred in add ons being shown. And this isn't even factoring in the differences in night lighting, road traffic, reflections, etc.

I'm not trying to bag on P3D. It's still installed on my system (I don't even have XP10 installed anymore). But it's got a ton of issues a lot of people don't see or don't want to see.

+1

I'm really not sure about that to be honest. They both look like iterations on very old tech to me, with neither shining compared to modern PC and console game titles, which do use far more advanced rendering technology.

Um... no. And why you can't compare a fullworld simulator to a localized game like GTA has been explained many times in various threads.

What is EVO How to get Evo 2016 FS9 Evolution Forum

I tried any X-plane demo since v.9 and I never felt comfortable. X-plane was dark and cold....Strange, very different....So I keep flying in FSX and then FSX:SE. I kept away from P3D due to asome amateurs developers which charge twice for the same product (they lost a customer, me).

I tried XP11 demo and it  looks terrific, Flight model is amazing. Default airplanes  are great too! I do not need spend hundred of dollars in ORBX products in order to fly over Jungles of Africa over the Russian Tundra....Here nobody remember the great desert ball. In FSX Earth is a blue sand marble... :P

Laminar is going to the right direction. X-plane is alive, in constant evolution. They probably will switch to Vulkan API  for example. Surely they will change weather engine, add some mising features, add some new features...We live  in a free world, then as a customers, we need Competitiveness, this market needs Competitiveness. Now X-plane is a great option.

If any developer wants an Oligopoly, can sell your products in North Korea. :Tounge:
