December 9, 200520 yr I installed this yesterday after reading the first post in this thread. I completely agree that this is a significant improvement to the look of the Fsim world as I perceive it. The program somehow gives the sun heat and real glare and while some might think that colors are too saturated, they are just spot on for me.For quite sometime I have been bothered by the dullish look of everything in flight simulator as compared to the real world, particularly while in the Virtual Cockpit despite setting the gamma level on my monitor significantly high. FS Atmosphere has woken everything up and created a much better look and feel, at least in daytime which is the only time I have tried it.Before installing, I emailed the developer, Sandon Lyon, and received an immediate assurance that his program operates without causing any problems in BEV or Flight Environment. And indeed, everything seems to work as advertised. There's something else as well. Mr Lyon's program makes some changes to the quality of reflections on water and metal. There are times I'd swear I was looking into real high noon glare. I almost wanted to squint or reach for the sunglasses.I've never had such Flight Simulator value before from something that cost about as much as a paperback novel. But everyone's technical set up and personal color sense is different so it may not be a universal cure.Rick GrantCalgary Alberta Rick Grant Calgary YYC www.rickgrant.com www.thedisastertourist.com
December 9, 200520 yr Hey VinYou're right! I always thought it was Etna. Moral: research first, post second. ;-)Ian
December 9, 200520 yr >Marco,Vincenzo here? Your in Italy,Where? Was in NAPOLI >recently. My father was born near NOLA! A town called>LIVERA!!100yrs ago! MARRONE!!a long time ago. You may know>where.Yes ,it did blow up during the War.Trouble is when will>it do it again. Not to soon I hope. Those Neapolitans show no>fear! Che sera sera!they say!> Stay in touch! " Bona Natalie"> CIO! VIN!Hi Vin (My sister's Vincenza)! I was born not very far from Napoli (45 miles as the crow flies). You're right, there are many thousands of reckless dwellers at the side of Vesuvio, it's a know fact if it will do the Big Boom, there will be another Pompeii :(Buon Natale anche a te!Marco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
December 9, 200520 yr I'm still uncertain whether to buy the program or not.Maybe someone could post some (big) before-after screenshots where the effect is most visible?Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
December 9, 200520 yr I bought it too. Because of the comments here, but also because of the "what the heck, why not" low cost. I haven't had a chance to fire up FS yet though to see what it is like! There are alot of addons out there that I would buy if only they were half the price. I'm not talking about the super sophisticated LDS/ATR stylee sims, but the general upgrades. I really think that if they halved the cost of roads, terrain, textures,et al then they would sell three time more.
December 9, 200520 yr Hi Sandon! How does FS Atmosphere work tohether with ASV? I use ASV, and it has its own clouds, haze and sky colors textures. But I am willing to replace haze and sky colors if necessary.Marco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
December 9, 200520 yr Sorry Andreas, no before and after, don't wanna install/uninstall many times to do do that, but here's from yesterdays flight in London. Theyr'e not edited except for cropping. http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...topic_id=219927Eagle
December 9, 200520 yr Yes, it works with ASV and Flight Enviorment.Just choose what you need out of the other products then re-install FS ATMOSPHERE.Best Regards Sandon Lyon
December 9, 200520 yr I'm a little confused. If FS atmosspere works with ASV, then why would you have to re-install it every time? That would tell me that it is replacing some of ASV's textures, correct?Brad2 miles from KELP/KBIFhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 9, 200520 yr Thanks for your reply, I just love Campangna, hope to return soon.I liked "Capodichino" air port.So close to the big mountain(Vesuvio).I visited the Napoli flying club on the field there.Ya gotta be awful rich to fly there. Great people, great food, and the greatest wine. The scenery an"t so bad also. There is also thousands of reckless drivers, cars and motorcycles, there also,as you know. They drive like "Kamikaze" pilots.Funny thing ,on the road,no one gets angry, cut me off,OK,my turn is coming.I drive the same way.:-hah The absence of road rage is amazing! Were it in LA,or any other place , there would be mayhem. Regards Marco CIO~ VIN
December 9, 200520 yr Brad or anyone else with questions about FS ATMOSPHERE please e-mail --> [email protected] do not want take advanatage of this great forum by flooding it with questions because this is NOT my product support page.Best RegardsSandon Lyon
December 9, 200520 yr Hi there Vin!Last time I was in Italy I went by car. Down there the backmirror was obsolete. No matter how the traffic situation was, the mirror was all Fiat.I saw this car (picture) one evening thinking, "what a parking!". In Oslo I'd get a ticket in 2 minutes. This guy didn't get a ticket, but the bump appeared sometime during the night ...Eagle
December 9, 200520 yr Hi Sandon, good to see you here...you have garnered a bit of attention I think...thanks to Jim. ;)Perhaps you could give some brief hints regarding color/gamma set-up(?).I was messing around with different settings last night and found the 'reflection' results could swing broadly between different aircraft re-paints/paints. Some, like a couple of my 'bare metal DC-3's' as example, are stunning. Then I go to a couple other aircraft and the effects do not 'work' as well. Firstly, does this have something to do with re-paints/paints with alpha channel layers vs. no alpha channels?Gamma: I have my desktop monitor set-up for my photography work, and adjust with Adobe Gamma. I don't want to change that. Now...I can, via the ATI settings manager, change some of these settings strictly for full frame 3-D enviroments. I tried a couple a settings (from the default gamma 1.0 setting) and found that actually decreasing gamma a bit helped in some situations, but it was necessary to increase 'darkness'. Contrast seemed to balance everything to 'look'....or perhaps contrast should be the follow-up setting adter a gamma adjustment, then 'light/dark'?Bottom line, can you give us some hints regarding these (initial) settings to work best 'across the board'? And some suggestions for 'tweaking' these settings for best results? Now, I guess this is very personal/subjective, but I'm trying to find the most realistic settigs, not 'exagerated'.I also find cranking up AA within the video card settings is imprtant as well. I didn't notice any huge frame rate hits by doing this, so am goint to max this out as much as possible. Going to more 'quality vs performance' settings seem to work better with 'Atmosphere'.I have a feeling you biggest hurdle is the wide range of they way aircraft is 'painted' and those variables cannot necessarily be controlled. But when you get a good 'paint/re-paint' job this can be really stunning. I was absolutly amazed especially by a few of my (well executed) bare metal versions of aircraft. Thanks in advance.

Many more addon developers than you can shake a stick at "abuse" this forum for various purposes. Captain Sim, for example. I don't think you're "taking advantage;" people are asking questions and you are answering them. BTW, I bought your product last night and am very pleased with it. ricardo
