December 12, 200520 yr HelloI would definatly have purchased by now if it was available by download700 mb is not really that large now, i get all my mesh from FSgenesis by D/L and the files are this size. Here in the UK and Europe 8 and 10 Mbit broadband is common now so size is no longer the issue it once was.
December 12, 200520 yr Hi Scott,RC4 definitely interacts with ai! See the website http://www.jdtllc.com and manual for more details. In a heavy ai environment the only problem is that the instruction to you might be a bit late because the controller is talking to so many other aircraft.I have used RC at up to sim speed x4 when enroute. I've encountered no problems. Above that the ai reset when I slow down. I generally fly descent and approach at x1.All the best,John
December 12, 200520 yr Hi there,I know :-(I'm in rural Scotland (at 512 kb broadband) and download FSGenesis stuff overnight. That's a huge improvement on what I used to have! It's more the economics of providing the server and bandwidth at the other end I guess - that's not my area of expertise thank goodness;-)I know exactly what you mean. I agree, a download option would be nice. Mind you, I've too many things sitting unused on my hard-drive that I downloaded without thinking as hard as I should! All I can recommend is, if you think it's a worthwile product, order it. If not, don't. Guess why no-one gave me a job in marketing :-lolAll the best,John
December 12, 200520 yr Hi there,I'm sure you won't regret it :-)As for delivery times it's Christmas so all bets are off :-(Usually I've got the stuff jd posts to me within a week or 10 days. All the best,John
December 13, 200520 yr Commercial Member shipping is included in the price of the productjd JD Read my blog
December 13, 200520 yr I am waiting till you guys put a download version up. I believe it is bound to happen sooner or later. 700 megs is nothing, even if you put speed limit on your server so it won't eat your bandwith. Come on, 99% of FS addons are avaliable via d/l.If d/l would be avaliable, you would have one more happy customer right now :(. I flew to virtual Vienna today and MS ATC vectored me to wrong rwy, I am fed up of them.Having zero shipping cost is very nice, but customs here will add 50% to 100% over your price in various fees etc. (called and asked specifically today, was about to order), unless you are shipping from within EU. Don't ask me why and how and how to dodge it (you can't unless you are lucky), but they do it all the time when I order books/dvds from US (for some reasons my job requires it sometimes).
December 13, 200520 yr Well, may as well chimne in with my 2 Yens worth.I've just got back into FS after a lengthy break. Didn't take long to find out that the default ATC is pretty bad, so I decided to look at RCv4. Watched the video demo, and must admit to be a little disappointed in the voices, but not enough not to order as the package seems very impressive. After ordering, I decided to watch the two other video and was very pleasantly surprised. I don't know if it was the fact that I was getting used to the RC4 voice packs, or that the voices used are different from the first video, but I find it much easier to listen to.I've since read the link posted earlier in the thread about how MS did their voice packs. I don't know how RC did their's but I wonder if they used the "tot" place marker in sentences, or did the users just record individual words/phrases? Anyway, just downloaded the manual and I think I'll go and hunt out any instructions about recording a set of wav files so I can put myself in the captain's seat.Looking forward to getting the CD, in the meantime I guess I'll just have to put up with being vectored all over the sky. :-lol phil http://www.ireiwa.com/images/lostpicprod.gif
December 13, 200520 yr Hello jdShipping is included but not customs charges unless the sender declares the value as nil or state on the packaging that it is a gift.If you state on the packaging that it is a gift it probably wont make it past the airline baggage handlers. In the UK that would amount to around 21% plus local delivery charge payable on delvery as the customs use a courier company to deliver items that they intercept.I have been charged many times on goods bought on Ebay from the USA.
December 13, 200520 yr One of the biggest challenges of IFR flying is talking to ATC and anticipating the options.I have a feeling AC4 delivers on that front. Thats why I ordered it. But I would like to hear from them that they recognize the not up to snuff sound file (in comparison to Fs9). :) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 13, 200520 yr Well I have read the whole of this thread with some dismay. I have waited nearly two years for this release and I agree the wav files leave a lot to be desired. Very surprised that this issue seems to have had no discussion on the RC forum that I have perused regularly during the past two years seeking updates on RC4. I guess those who can't stand the wav files selected themselves out of the RC user base leaving only those who can put up with them. I have listened to all the demos and initially thought that perhaps the adverse comments were over stated as real world ATC is pretty incomprehensible as well, but by the time I had got through the third demo I must say I found them very aggravating. As I said I find this all extremely disappointing - I was very close to ordering but not sure what I will do now, haven't used FS9 ATC for some time, as it is so unrealistic. If the RC developers want to attract new users this wav file issue must be addressed.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
December 13, 200520 yr Let's say someone has the time to actually go through recording and editing all those words and phrases - how easy is it to add a new voicepack to RC v4 (on the technical side, not necessarely on voice talent side)? Can they just copy their new WAV files to a directory within the RC installation directory and hear their voice in-game?Do you provide a list of all required words and phrases for a full set and information on the naming convention to be used with the WAV files? And in general, do you encourage or discourage people to create their own (freeware) voicesets for RC v4?

If the RC developers want to>attract new users this wav file issue must be addressed.>>Bruceb>I think that this is something that they knew about for a couple of years now, because it was one of the complaints made when RC3 was the only product. I found that after listening to it for about an hour, it started really getting on my nerves. While the FS9 ATC isn't perfect, it is still alot more fluid like normal speech and doesn't sound like a series of "snipped" words glued together. It reminds me of those Voice Mail readbacks where it asks you for input and then plays the numbers you inputed back to make sure it got them right. Very robotic like. Since this is an ATC simulator, a big part of it has to be the voice that you hear, the other being the ATC control. They both have to be of good quality, or I don't think it will work for alot of people. It most be a difficult problem to fix, because if they have had a couple of years, and it still isn't right, I doubt if it ever will be fixed.
December 13, 200520 yr Ditto. No download no sale. 700mb is nothing and bandwidth is cheaper that shipping.
December 13, 200520 yr Hi Janne,The simple answer is yes. The all you need is the right files, with the right names in the right folder.I think that, once the initial busyness surrounding the release has died down and we have had time to take the comments on board, jd is looking at making a utility to produce these files available to interested individuals. All the best,John
