December 10, 200520 yr Just out of curiosity, how does RC v4 handle airports that have not had their name recorded by the voice actors? Does it use the ICAO code instead?
December 10, 200520 yr Hi Janne,That's correct. So EGPH would be voiced as Echo Gulf Papa Hotel. All the best,John
December 10, 200520 yr The voices don't sound robotic...they just sound british. AA pilots and Oakland center, etc. :) And it's much slower than real world ATC. Over all, I like what I've seen and heard so far. As a fellow simmer said: what are the alternatives for offline flying?Jason JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
December 10, 200520 yr What????? Robotic voices???? Naaaa.I just finished watching the video and was very impressed! I thought the speech was very clear and as good as version 3, if not slightly better!Apparently you haven't used very many speech interaction programs. From what I heard on the video, the speech was comparable to other programs like ATC simulator 2.Also, the video is going to have lower sound quality than the actual product due to the compression used in Windows Media format videos. For a product of its type, I think it's speech is good. December 10, 200520 yr >The voices don't sound robotic...they just sound british. AA>pilots and Oakland center, etc. :) Hi Jason,Yes we brits are quite well represented :-)There's a variety (Italian, Danish, Australian, South African) and of course quite a few Americans ;-)You can select which voices you want to hear of course so you can silence me at the press of a button :( All the best,John
December 10, 200520 yr Maybe she works internationally to make up for what she might consider poor FAA compensation. (No, I'm not a fed employee, just a fed employer via taxes and formerly usage fees :) )
December 10, 200520 yr Commercial Member My 1st impression afer watching the videos is their voices don't sound robotic but their editing/pacing do. If they could work on the "choppyness" or phraseology a bit I believe they could tighten up the sentences to make them more fluid. But I like the actual human voices they use. My only halt on purchase is it does not work with FSHotseat. I don't think I could live without my AI sound effects... ah...decisions-decisions. ;) Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) December 10, 200520 yr Hi There,I don't have FSHotseat so I hesitate to comment but my understanding is that it will work with RC but limits RC's ability to correctly identify the callsigns for ai aircraft. It insists on setting FSUIPC to provide the data in a particular way, different to the one RC uses :-(Thus the ai chatter will not sound as good as it should. In terms of the way RC interacts with you it should have no effect.I'll see if I can find someone on the team who uses FSHotseat and can confirm this info. All the best,John
December 10, 200520 yr I am playing the demo. Yes.. the robotic sound isn't all that great. But the ATC comminication (technically) sounds really really good. The slow atc comminication is a plus for me... since this is a good learning thing too.I am now interested in this. But I have a Q. In the standard ATC.. i communicate my pressing menu option. How do I do with that Radar Contact? Do I select from menu options and the system plays the sound back?and typically how many menu option would I have? currently i have programmed the CH throttle buttons 1-10 to ATC ack. i want to make sure.. I can do that.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 10, 200520 yr >But I have a Q. In the standard ATC.. i communicate my>pressing menu option. How do I do with that Radar Contact? Do>I select from menu options and the system plays the sound>back?Yep, basically the same, using a module called AdvDisp which places a menu window on the screen. This shows the menu options similar to the FS9 ATC menu. I usually have the AdvDisp hidden and only bring it up when I can't remember the menu items. :)_Mark Kuebeler
December 10, 200520 yr Hi Manny,RC uses menu's. I also use 10 buttons.Basically each menu page has 5 options (5 buttons)Another 3 to move through the menu pages (forward, backward, and back to the beginning)1 to contact the next controller and 1 to ack instructions.RC allows you to assign any keystroke you want to these options then you program the button to send that keystroke. All the best,John
December 10, 200520 yr Hi there,I can confirm what I said earlier about the problem with FSHotseat. Essentially instead of the ai getting correct callsigns like 'Speedbird 357' they get called things like 'Boeing alpha tango zulu'.It sounds pretty bad which is why we really don't encourage the two addons to be used together at the moment. It is, however, the only incompatibility. All the best,John
December 10, 200520 yr Well thanks for the input folks, I think I will get it, as it the technical side of ATC that is important, and im sure after a while, any "robotism" in the voices will fade :-) Alaister Kay
December 10, 200520 yr Hi Alaister,I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Any queries/problems, drop into our forum here on avsim. All the best,John
December 10, 200520 yr I'll think I'll restate this simply (I hope). For pacing of phrases, try adjusting your DX sound acceleration via DXDIALOG.EXE. It made a difference on my card under RC3.1.
