Beta 6 is out

Featured Replies

For me PB3 was and remains the best so far. I still have it and maybe I'll skip a few of the next betas. LR's priorities will never change and if you are on the opposite side of their list then that's just bad luck.

So far I'm no X Plane fan, however I do want to see how it develops and have been using the Demo with Beta 6 trying to keep an open mind and give it a chance, hoping for the best, I start on the runway at KSEA with the C172 at a fairly smooth 20+ FPS, get into the air, after about 2 min. FPS tanks a 3 to 5 FPS, totally unusable, anyone have this scenario ?, seems it has gotten worse with each beta release, the off Threaded Optimization trick does nothing.

What are your system specs, including monitor resolution? Also, are these results with graphics and world objects set fairly low, clear sky with no clouds?

Have you tried disabling completely AI traffic? I think there's a bug with AI for now, of which developers are already aware.

To disable AI, in the aircrafts screen, at the upper right, there's a button called "AI Aircraft". Click on it and delete all AI aircrafts.

Be advised that if you fly a glider, X-Plane will automatically add an AI aircraft (the towing aircraft) and that will remain active even if you change aircraft, so you have to manually delete it.

Good idea. We want to get rid of the weathervaning bug, so, all who have not sent a report should do so. Any suggestions on what to include in the bug report?

Better still, can anyone with knowledge of the problem write up a technical report describing the problem? This should get Austin's attention if enough of us file it.

A detailed technical report requires some time and effort. Last time I did experiments on the issue, the main problem was (apparently!) not the ground friction, but an excessive weathervaning stability, so either the vertical stabilizer, or the fuselage, or both.

No, this is still very unrealistic according to more than one real-life C172 pilot in the .org forum.

It's a bit frustrating that we can't tell if this is something Austin thinks is working as intended, or he's aware of it and just hasn't managed to fix it yet. It isn't listed as a Known Bug among the others on the XP11 release notes page, which is worrying.

I think that issues with the default aircrafts flight model (or issues with X-Plane flight model itself) have been historically seldom listed in the bug list. Often we just get an updated (improved, when we're lucky :Big Grin: ) aircraft, or flight model feature.

Now that being said, ideally Austin should fix the weathervaning bug, but the most important thing is to have a correct ground friction (and prop effects, too).

If the ground friction is correct, it's "just" a matter of tuning the vertical stabilizer effectiveness, and luckily Plane-Maker gives several ways to do that.

If the weathervaning isn't fixed by the time it's out of Beta, at that point we'll have to tackle it (again, provided the ground friction is correct).

"Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

Now that you ask this I really should take another look. ;-)

Would you say the issue affecting any prop aircraft is solved now? I.e. they behave in this regard like they did in XP10?

I checked thrust output of the propeller system of beta 6 against the latest version of XP10, and they are almost identical. So that works again as intended.

Now I know that Austin worked on the slipstream model, probably changing something on the propellers - thats why I think they may idle higher now at the "idle" setting. I am not sure if this is due to a "fault" in his model, or just something "new" that airplane makers have to adopt to.

But I think that the THRUST output at 1000 rpm is correct - even though the value of 1000 is too high for idle power.

"Some claim"? Why do you say it as if there's room for doubt? X-Plane 11 is quite definitely in beta. We don't know the final release date because Laminar Research hasn't announced it. If you have no stomach for beta software then stick with X-Plane 10 for now.

Did you actually think before you decided to respond to my post or are you just trying to increase your post count?  What my stomach will not take is going back to XP 10.

The reason why I asked the question is because I'd like to honestly know when there will be a version stable enough or good enough to make it to a dvd or to allow devs to release updates. I'm waiting patiently for the AirfoilLabs 172 & Saab 340 and I'd like to get an idea of how much longer I and others will be waiting. This definitely doesn't mean that I do not enjoy beta testing.

You may be hitting the VRAM limit - initial loading drops you right within your limit (check the rendering settings), and once you get airborne and more stuff comes into view, you bust the limit... Now texture needs to go into slooooow normal RAM.

Worth a shot to drop down your resolution and try again.

I don't think we've ever had a firm release date posted in advance for any version of X-Plane (although I only go back to version 8, I think). Laminar just doesn't work that way. If you want a guess, I'd say they're trying very hard to get a RC out in the next week or two so they can go final by the end of January. But it wouldn't surprise me if it isn't out until February either.

I'm just as anxious as you are to get a version the add-on developers can use as a fixed target for v11 updates. But it won't help if that target shifts too far again with further major patching after XP11 goes final. So I'm anxious, but still happy to wait.

I would bet on the later part of February if I was a betting man

At last a workaround for the dreaded cockpit lights you hated so much.

Sorry Hans not seeing a fix there

Has anyone tried using this tweak (Lua script) for increasing performance.. looks promising.. you can tone down traffic, birds and other things (things possible in v10 but not with v11)..

Yep, I have it running. Worth a try.

Yes that post but the ugly orange lighting should not be there at all thats what vc light switches are for - shouldnt be there at all high end (cough) payware do not have that ugly back lighting - shame because he default 737 is awesome but not  that back drop lighting ruins it - what I want to know is how to turn it off completely
