P3D VAS usage (FSL A320 related)

Featured Replies

Bought it yesterday - yes, it's about 400Mb more VAS hungry than any of PMDG birds. Gotta compromise on some of the settings.

So did I. Impossible to takeoff from KFLL (FSDT) with the same settings that are so easy to the PMDG 777.

It is more. Not tragic however...

My observations after multiple full flights in the FSL A320x:

Using the latest version of P3D and at least the following addons: AS16, Rex Airports and Texture Direct, Orbx Global, Trees and Vector. I don't have Orbx OpenLC Europe (yet!).

For the tests: flying to and from EGCC and LFPG using UK2000's Manchester and Taxi2Gate's LFPG.

My P3D settings and AS16 settings are somewhat conservative but not what you would call low. I run at a resolution of 3135x1764 down sampled to 2560x1440 and FXAA turned off (not that this affects VAS but does FPS.)

At load and taxi out - 1.1 to 1.9 remaining

Top of descent - 0.9 to 1.1 remaining

At shut down - 0.8 to 0.9 remaining

(Values in Gb VAS remaining as displayed by FSUIPC)

My FPS was good enough: averaging 20-28 with a locked target of 30. I'm sure I could increase this by adjusting some settings.

As a side note: I tried flying to KDEN with FlightBeam's KDEN and it was a total no-go. I think it's the accompanying tools: Add-on manager and whatever the other thing is called, eat VAS memory like a shark.

After all the "tweaking", if you can call it that, these are status quo results, Aerosoft LEMG, Stand 44, VAS usage:

FSLABS A320: 3032MB

PMDG NGX: 2833MB

I hope that in flight it also performs well. Last couple of flights, it even unloaded the airport scenery to a certain extent.

I did a flight from the new KSLC to Flightbeams KDEN yesterday landed on 16R taxied to T1 used all out side views at gate after shutdown GSX etc. VAS left = 600.

I don't use anymore "tweaks" than I did for the PMDG 777, imho there is no problem with VAS with this aircraft.

David do you load it directly in the P3D aircraft selection menu or via a saved flight situation ?

I have heard they are working on a "PMDG" like solution regarding panel-states

Also someone on facebook is posting Hotfix 3 is near for the P3DV3.4 (via fselite.net i guess)

Thanks

I am not obsessively watching the fps and VAS figures, but on my last 10-12 online flights across Europe, out of and into payware airports (Aerosoft, flytampa, ORBX, fsdreamteam), over FTX Global, Vector (with reduced settings) and Open LC EU, I haven't had an OOM, nor were I nearing a critical value that would start the binging to go off.

On the flight Vienna (FT) to Frankfurt (v2 Aerosoft), I had 700 MB VAS left when I parked at the stand.

That is in P3D v3.3.

I set up a default flight within P3D like the manual tells you, Cub . I then turned off the  engines how it tells you in the manual. So my default flight is a cub with engines off.

I start P3D and there is the cub showing with engines off in preview window.

I then load a flight plan. Change Gate to what I want.

Then I load with Cub, as AS16-chaseplane-sim is imho far easy'er "load" for the sim to do.

The I goto aircraft and then load the A320.

Just how they say you should.

At the moment I feel loading the A320 at same time is a huge load all at the same time.

I have a default flight with the Baron and engines shut down. With this default flight, I can load the A320 directly from the scenerario setup in P3D without any problems and it starts up in Cold and Dark.

Yep it works that way Carlo. Same as with the cub.

You load it directly within P3D as every other plane (just with a saved situation but still directly)

Some says it saves around 100-150mb VAS.

Thanks

I have deleted almost all of default P3D planes except for F22 and Baron. Can I use Baron instead of Cub or it must be the Cub.

I am quite sure you can use any of the default.
