WAMA (Where are my aircraft) released

Sounds interesting. Wasn't this also a feature of another application I remember from a few years ago? Ideal Flight, I think it was.

I would seriously long for something a step farther than this - where you could not just see your aircraft at an airport, but where you could get out of your aircraft climb in the other one, start up, and be off. I can do this in Arma3, for example, but it's about 200 steps backward on the flight sim scale.

Maybe in another decade or so...

In the first post there is a link to simmarket.  There you will find a demo video. In it he moves around an airport and moves up to an aircraft and can fly it.  Check it out.

I did. It's impressive to come that far within the sim, for sure - but not quite the seamless experience that I'm longing for. I'm getting spoiled by other games where this is something that's built in, such as Arma, or Star Citizen. Really not something I'd ever expect of our current gen sims, and in no way a negative comment on this addon!

Combined with such a reasonable price, I may be enticed to pick this up. Even though I don't buy many MSFS addons as a rule any longer, I still use the sim for flying a few particular aircraft within very set areas, and this might be neat to play with.

I purchased this and it works great in P3D 34.

Feature Request:

Could the developer either go two ways for streamlining the "I want to fly this aircraft" feature?

1. either make an option to automatically switch to the aircraft you want to fly when the "I am looking at it" button is highlighted (so we don't have to press it).

or

2. supply a short cut key for the two I want to fly buttons

The reason is that in Virtual reality, it breaks immersion to switch out of VR onto the desktop to press these buttons in WAMA. I have found a way to overcome this by importing the whole WAMA interface into the VR environment with Flyinside and press the buttons in VR so no stress if you can't do it - just would be nice is all.

1. Automatic load seemed impractical to me. If you just want to look at the aircraft (=do a walk around) it would interfere.

so

2. was the option that is currently present in WAMA: the "I want to fly...looking at" feature is bound to the "TOGGLE_LAUNCH_BAR_SWITCH" simulator event.

If you assign a keyboard shortcut or Joystick button to it, then you can jump into the cockpit without leaving the sim.

The other positions can be called up with the in-sim WAMA menu. The "I want to fly this aircraft" button hasn't been bound to a sim event, because it is tied to the drop down box above it - IMHO it wouldn't make much sense, triggering an event from inside the sim when you can't be sure what it does.

For the record: I am moving around in my invisible Lorby Camera Pod. I have made this model available as a free download on the Lorby website.

I am using WAMA like this:

- I have WAMA added to my exe.xml, so it loads with the sim. Autoconnect, Autominimize and Autosave are On in WAMA

- My default scenario was saved with the Camera Pod. It is the most lightweight model imaginable - no external or internal model.

- So when the sim loads, I can drive around with the invisible pod, looking at my aircraft.

- I can then select one to fly by getting close to it - or I just call up a saved one with the menu

For the scenario outlined by Jimmy RFR, I would select the Camera Pod again after I have finished the flight, and then drive to the aircraft that I want to fly next. The model that I came from will be created as soon as I drive the pod away from the parking spot.

It works just the same with BOB or the Avatar (just remember to select him as your vehicle - avoid using the "Avatar-Mode")

My mistake, had to reinstall simconnects and reboot pc...now works.

That is really odd.

All my addons come in four separate versions for FSX, FSX-SE, P3D (2.5) and P3D V3.x

- Each version has been compiled with the SimConnect libraries of the target simulator

- Each version is shipped with the correct SimConnect.dll for the target simulator

Unless something is really wrong with your simulator, installing an additional SimConnect client is unnecessary.

Beware: the different versions of a Lorby addon share a lot of code, but they are not identical. The P3D versions take advantage of the new functionality of those sims, especially since V3.x was released. Make sure to always use the correct addon version for your simulator.

When in doubt, please contact me, using the form on the Lorby website.

Ok that one will be good enough thanks for the help.

By the way, your FireFighterX program is fantastic especially the ability to download and inject real world fire locations anywhere in the world well done  :Applause:

Hi Oliver,

thank you for this nice addon (and for a very reasonable price)!

I have some feature requests:

- Please remove the confirmation popup when exiting the app, or at least add an option to disable it.

- Add the name of the nearest airport to the dropdown list.

- Allow saving one aircraft (i.e. just one livery) in multiple locations (but only one per airport), so I can start flights at one of my usual three departing airports. I don't want to use different liveries, because if I fly from one of my usual departures to an airport where I have parked this aircraft, too, I don't want to see it there.

Hello Thomas.

1. If you use Autoconnect, then WAMA will close silently once the simulator is stopped.

2. I am afraid that this is not really possible. SimConnect does not reliably tell which one the nearest airport is - you don't even reliably get the airport that you are currently on. (Which is why navigation related addons often use "makerunways" or similar helper processes to compile their own database. That would be a little bit beyond the scope of this addon)

3. Technologically, that is against the whole WAMA idea - resulting in a lot of work. I will see what I can do. "One per airport" is impossible to implement without a major effort - see 2.

1. Ah, good to know. That will work for me.

2. Maybe allow editing the displayed name, so I can change e.g. "Cessna 337 BLUE" to "C337 EDDG" myself.

3. The usual thing with users: They will find use-cases which were never intended :)  Thank you for looking into it.

Thank you, glad you like it!

Thank you Mr. Steiner for this post.

I've been looking for a program to replace FSRecorder and Air Traffic FX by Flight1 to resume formation flights. Both of these programs are clunky and not designed for P3D.

Your post directed me to this developer. Although WAMA is not the program I've chosen, AITraffic X hit the nail on the head!!! Purchased and works right out of the box as advertised!

So thank you Oliver Binder also. Might just pick up WAMA and the rest.

Sincerely,

Greg S

I agree and now thinking of getting his AITrafficX app as well.
