As we already suspected, the article in PCGamer was premature and incorrect, reason why we did not mention it in the news. Thanks for bringing that here--it's a good place to start this thread...-John

Interesting, VERY interesting! looking forward to this announcement, it will clarify a few things :-)And, so far, this posting (well the previous one) has been a good read. I'm hoping the same will continue :-)

Just because MS is set to announce something officially doesn't mean it was premature in pc gamer, it just means they really did get the scoop and nobody else did.So speculation continues, everybody thinks they know

Didn't simflight claim a similar "scoop" once on something MSFS related? But I would 'err on the side of caution and not assume that PCGAMER is right or wrong at this point. My Mantra stil is: "remember the WMD's" I believe all the News magazines helped that bit of "confusion" linger on, all of which I would hope would be more willing to check sources than a gaming magazine--or gaming site. :)-John

I'll take Microsofts word on the subject before anyone elses simply because they are the developer and they know their schedule better than anyone else :-lol

I never thought my thread would create so much interest!;) Victor

Alex,You need to read that pre-release again. It states that the article was not correct and the actual news from MS would be coming soon.I think I stated something similar back in the first part of the original thread.

Whether PCGAMER is correct or not, what I find most interesting is people already starting to complain. I know for myself I love a good upgrade. A new FS and later on a new OS? Man!!!! what a year its going to be. (Honestly as a Mac user I could care less about Vista, except that it will be in 64 bit...hopefully.) The article said that FSX is optimised for Vista and for some folks thats a tragic thing. And I bet those same people would be complaining if it wasnt optimised for Vista, saying they never upgrade their graphic and flight engines to current standards, built on old technology, etc etc. Trust me folks, if you want FS to work really well over the course of the next 2 years or so, you really do want it to be optimised for Vista. It's actually a really good thing. So no more whining, please. Ahhh who am I kidding? I love reading posts from the whiners.Cheers,Scott

Also, this article just did what they probably wanted to do.. started the hype ;).Here are my few toughts and speculations about FS10.- it will run on Windows XP just fine- it should run faster in theory because MS will utilize latest hardware and software technology- it will have 5.1 sound (yes!!)- most improvements will be about VFR flying- no backwards compatibility, even if, old sceneries will just look wrong, because graphically it will be much more advanced than what we have today- old planes won't work without major rework. Visually all old planes models will have to be redone to get them up to new standards- not many improvements to flight models, but taxi will be fixed- at least basic version of FMC included (not hard to do based on what default FS9 GPS can do). SID& STARS procedures maybe (I don't believe in my own speculation in this case)- a bit more attention about Europe and Australia, not sure about Asia- stunning weather engine, no need for external ones anymore- MS developed addon(s) in 6 months- SDK released no eariler that 6 months after initial release:)As for today I speculate that FS10 is in late stage of beta and is pretty much feature frozen. QA is ongoing and RC version coming soon, after that we shall see more details announced and possibly few screenshots. If anyone from FS team reading it, keep going and don't stay very lat at work ;)P.S. I am 99% sure than new version will be great and we will have a lot of fun in new, improved FS.

Scott,As I remarked earlier, I am proud of the way the thread was conducted. Please don't start with the "whiner" talk. People have a right to express opinions here without their opinions getting that label...-John

Simflight says its not correct, but what do they know about that. PCgamer was first with the news, good for them.OHN

Read the press release. I'm sure the other news organizations like Avsim were contacted with this info as well.Simflight are not the ones stating the info wasn't correct, it was MS.Let me know if anyone else needs clarification on this issue.
