best settings for P3D v4

Ok so something is wrong with loading the textures during the flight.

I overclocked CPU to 4.9 GHz, during the flight I have approx. 30-50 FPS, most of the sliders I have on HIGH or more.

But there is a moment during the flight when terrain gets totally blurred. It gets sharp again only when I change something in graphic properties and reload it again. But after few minutes there is the same situation.

I tried to freeze the FPS to 20 but it doesn't changed anything.

Any ideas?

Too high terrain or autogen settings. Also make sure you have no affinity mask or are using all cores.

As a test, go back to the settings that I posted earlier.. all of them.. and see what happens.

Hi Bert,

Are you using a texture_bandwidth_mult entry in your Display section of P3D.cfg?

thx,

mike

What this entry does?

I've just realized that I had an affinity mask set to 244. I deleted this from cfg file and see whether this will help.

I have autogen sliders set to Normal

Yeah the affinity mask must be it. Back when I was testing AM with v4 I had blurries as long as I didn't use 255. Meaning all cores. The terrain doesn't have enough resources to load if you restrict to less it than 6 threads hence the blurries.

The texture bandwith limit is supposed to reduce or stop black textures or slow loading textures by increasing it. In my experience it doesn't do much however, and definitely doesn't help with blurries.

Beau's second post in that thread:

http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6312&t=127871

"Thanks for bringing this to our attention. There are actually two places, and one of them does not override the TSE value based on the HRTT setting. As a result, mismatched settings may have some negative side effects. Until we can fix this, please limit your combination of these options to these three combinations:

For default 256:
HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=0
TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8 (or not set)

For 512:
HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=1
TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9 (or not set)

For 1024:
HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=1
TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10

Please do not use these setting combinations as they may cause problems:

HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=0
TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9

HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=0
TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10

HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=1
TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8

Thanks"

Guys, so regarding affinity mask - is it better to set the affinity mask to 255 to use all 8 cores or don't use it and let P3D to do it automatically?
What is better to have better performance?

Essentially the same. Shouldn’t have any difference in performance whatsoever. You can just set it to be 255 to be safe though.

What about version of Windows? Does it have an impact on performance?

Currently I have Windows 7 and I'm wondering whether it'll be any difference in performance after switching to 10.
