AI traffic separation

Featured Replies

Has anyone developed an AI Separation program for v4? Or has gotten a older program like AISmooth to work? I use UT Live and sometimes the ai traffic tends to stack up. This might have been covered already and I’ve just been out of the loop but the last post I saw on this matter was back in 2017. So I was curious if anything worth mentioning has surfaced.

Not sure about the separation programs but when traffic starts to stack up when your on approach, UT has a built in feature called Clear Approach. When you hit the assigned buttons it will clear the planes in front of you so you can land without overtaking them.

Yeah I know of the feature, I just never had the opportunity to use it. The reason being is I fly a Citation II so my approach speed is usually slower than other jets lol. In fact, if I’m really light I can come in at 96 knots! That’s super slow! 😂

AI smooth was a great little tool for fsx. I wish it made it over to p3dv4. AI separation hasn’t worked well for me

Do any of us know the author of the tool? Is he/she on Avsim? Maybe we can beg and plead for a new 64 bit version lol

The C550 isn't slow and can approach at a more normal jet speed, the aircraft itself is more than capable. 160-170 until or even well inside the FAF isn't unheard of.

Tried many times as well but AI smooth doesn't detect p3d, the v3 either. AI separation fortunately works fine so far, beside the annoying slewing that looks weird in the sky at night. If you get the settings right it gives better result than AI smooth which used to leave lot of AI circling forever.

AFAIK, this feature does not yet work correctly in UTL. This was also discussed recently in the UTL forum.

Maybe you should give PSXseconTraffic a try. Real live AI aircraft are controlled by real live ATC, they will normally never stack up (and if so you may be watching a real live near miss or even worse  ...)

A few years ago, the creator of AISmooth posted on his webpage that a big update was in the works, but obviously, we haven't heard anything else since.  I use UTL with P3Dv4 and definitely miss AISmooth.

His name is Michael Sagner, but I have not found him in the forums.

Here is his last post: https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/aismooth-x-on-its-way.431263/

Omg... he probably got eaten by an ALASKAN BULL WORM! 🐛

Last year FSReborn said was doing something on traffic management that would be released this year, had my hopes high but haven't heard anything new on it yet.

I believe that the sim community needs a traffic management system that enforces speed restrictions. If we honestly had that, it would solve MOST of the issues we face with traffic stacking up. Think about it. The AI aircraft are racing in all at once until they reach 10,000ft and then they come to a screeching hault which is 250kts until they’re in final. Of course in real life this is not the way it goes. I fly on Gulfstream G550’s with the company I work for on the regular (check out my insta for Corporate aviation rated content @_24_jumpseat) and honestly whenever we are 150nm’s out, ATC will start slowing us down. Of course depending on the load at the time but it’s pretty much like that everywhere you go that has congested airspace. If we had a program that could recognize speeds, and line up aircraft based on their heading, speed, altitude, and sort them out we’d be golden. And for slower, or delayed aircraft, the program places them in a holding pattern until there’s an opening or break in traffic and then they slip into an open crack before the next aircraft comes in. And if we want to get REALLY technical, have this program also manage AI traffic on the ground as well so that you can get put in the “penalty box” if the airspace you’re scheduled to fly through is too crowded. So things don’t get too hectic. Okay, now I’m just talking crazy 😂
