So the aileron option is already a foolish/unrealistic option that could have been avoided for the sake of customer care. I've flown Dash8s, 767s etc. for many years IRL and it's new to me that you need the ailerons on ground during taxiing on any of these. So calling this option foolish is...well...foolish.

Its very unlikely you are the only real pilot that knows nothing about aileron control on the ground. Here is the concept in simple form: http://flighttrainingcenters.com/training-aids/private-pilot/pre-solo/wind-correction-during-taxi/

Maybe because you can't differntiate between taxi and takeoff? Edited September 30, 20187 yr by J35OE

Ok so when you take off in the Q400 with a heavy crosswind IRL, are you using the ailerons or the rudder or the steering tiller to keep the centerline? You should answer the Rudder and Allerions as needed. MY POINT is (read slowly and carefully - then read it again), take off is essentially a fast TAXI and that 767 NEEDED the alerions to assist in controlling the plane, a Q400 does too. One who does not have a steering tiller (extra controller) and/or a large HD screen to be able to zoom out (to control the steering with the mouse) enough and still be able to see the panel well enough will be unhappy learning to handle the Majestic on the ground - its very awkward, not practical. When controlling rudder (steering) and aileron with the same movement, in the same direction, they cancel out each other in a sense, because normally they are used in OPPOSITE directions to maintain a certain track on the ground under strong crosswind conditions. The "aileron to control steering" on the ground is a very clumsy situation; its incorrect and plain wrong. Maybe Majestic may have done it that way to appear to have a groundbreaking new idea/way of doing things. It was a bad idea, and some fans of the product will not admit that, they should. The OVERALL POINT as pertinent to this discussion is all other add-ons use the rudder to control ground steering because it is more practical (PC simulation) in all phases when the plane is on the ground. PMDG understands this, Majestic does not, obviously you do not either. I personally use an extra controller tiller for steering on the ground, so I personally do not have an issue with the Majestic method, I'm just saying not everybody has and extra controller and those who don't are not having as much fun as me. This is the end of what I'm going to say about this "sub-topic". If you still don't understand, you never will, because its more about thinking of others instead of oneself (customer care - PMDG excels at this).

The "aileron to control steering" on the ground is a very clumsy situation; its incorrect and plain wrong. 1. You couldn't be more wrong concerning the similarity between taxi and takeoff. Neither in a 767 or a Dash8 you touch the steering tiller during the takeoff run. That's a big no-no. Of course you need rudder and opposite aileron to keep the plane straight during a xwind takeoff, but certainly not the nosewheel steering tiller (on the 767 and most other jets the rudder pedals are providing nosewheel steering as well but usually only ~10% of the steering tiller range). 2. I don't have the Majestic Dash8 but I did assume that using the aileron/tiller combination isn't a permanent thing, but just an option for taxiing. If this aileron/nosewheel steering combo is actually active during the takeoff run this would be indeed a hair raising awful 'solution'. Edited October 1, 20187 yr by J35OE

He said either all the lighting was on or it was off. But he had the Dome light on, which lights up the whole flight deck. If you properly setup the flight deck lighting for night flight there very minimum of any flood lighting should be used. It destroys your night vision. Panel Back lighting is set to a desired setting and a small portion of floods are used to high-light knob position if you are having a hard time making things out. Thats all thats needed. Thank you, Brian. I see your point.
October 1, 20187 yr Careful with questions like this..... I just went on the PMDG forum, and asked a simple question, and received a rude, curt warning from MR R ..... no explanation given. The question ? "How does the new 800 expansion for the 747, compare to the base model, in terms of frame rate performance?". To me, this is a reasonable question given all the new features and EFB panels etc. Wow.... given all the Freedom of Speech issues in the U.S., I find this to be a shocking response to such a simple, fair and relevant question. Clearly the Bill of Rights does not apply to Mr R and PMDG.

The BoR has nothing todo with anything said on any online forum. Nadda. You are free to speak your mind in the constraints of the what the owner of forum allows. If someone disagrees with you and says something you don't like. Doesn't mean your civil rights has been violated. In fact that is what the civil rights are protecting. Both parties to be able to talk back in forth. Now if he was just plain rude. That's just called poor customer service. But again not a civil rights issue.
