New MS Flight Sim shown at E3

I think it is called "Flight Simulator" to leave the title open. My guess is there will be something like... "Microsoft Flight Simulator (for) Xbox" and "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020" for the PC version. If memory serves right, even first screens for FSX were labeled Flight Simulator 2006.

I don't think so given how this is a reboot. Think of it how movies will reuse an original name after 20-30 years.

I believe the logo is the final name. I don't remember an Flight Simulator 2006 logo being put out.

Trailer claims it's an Xbox exclusive.

Not saying you are wrong, but I'm not sure you are right in this specific case.

As many have pointed out Xbox is not just the console any more, it’s an encompassing umbrella for games published by/for Microsoft products.

I know. That's not what I'm saying.

They said it's an Xbox Exclusive, which points to it only being sold on the Xbox app on PC and not Steam. Otherwise, the word exclusive doesn't mean anything. But I could be wrong.

So I popped over to the P3D forum here..

This is a tiny sampling of exactly the type of issues that some of us want to never deal with again basically..

Also, you can see just from the titles why a centralized, curated and tech/quality standard minimum vetted MSFS store would be nice.

No, it's one title for both platforms: "Microsoft Flight Simulator."

That's how it's shown on the xbox.com announcement page, as one product available on two platforms. There is no separate PC page. This is how MS is marketing its entertainment software going forward. See here:

I didn't think that it was considered a reboot, that is a good point. Ahhh I couldn't find the pictures. They were very early spring/early summer 2006 if I remember correct. Before we really got any real info or videos. I just remember the 737 at a gate with the logo at the bottom. I remember the excitement in the summer of 2006. Almost everyday I would come home from work to check the official site to see if new screens or a video had been posted! Much like we have been flocking to this forum all week.

Yeah, selling the base product on their platform would make sense.

The main issue people seem to have right now is with add-ons. Having the sim published by Xbox GamePass doesn’t preclude MS from leaving the file structure open so add on devs can publish directly into it with their installers like they do today. It doesn’t mean add on devs won’t be able to get their product on the Xbox system and users purchase and add it from there. That ecosystem is already well in place in other games - think about Apple who writes iOS which has an App Store which publishes Candy Crush. King gets money. They have extra in game purchases. Apple gets a cut for being the download hub and payment processor. Everyone has a way to gain, but it seems certain publishers who have pulled everything in-house so they don’t have to give Flight1 or SimMarket or whomever else was the download hub and payment processor a cut for hosting the sale processing and download bandwidth don’t want to give that cut back to MS. There are a lot of unknowns in this whole thing though - are they allowing add-ons in the first place? It would seem silly not to so assume yes, and assume it’s only obtainable through GamePass, how much is MS’s cut? Is the markup significantly more than the 2-3% a credit card processor charges for the transaction? How much is the infrastructure to provide the download costing in servers, power, bandwidth, and administration to the loners... Is it really that much more expensive to gate it through someone else when you look at the total costs involved? Or is it just a control thing. There are lots of variables here which don’t have any answers at this time. Honestly, I’d be surprised if we had answers to much of this before Q2 next year, assuming the release will be timed with the new console in holiday 2020.

Exactly, this is why I am looking forward to any new flight simulator. I want to fly my simulator, but with all the issues, I just can’t be bothered.

Here's some speculation for you.

Notice that the marine layers are in realistic places at realistic times in the trailer (SF and LA). Another hint that the use of "real weather data" means a real weather engine.

Sure, but what warranties you have that the new sim would have an ATC that works the way you are looking for? I.E does it will support SID, STARS, ACARDS?, Holds, Etc? Will the AI models follow SID and STARS?, would AI models be properly separated?

Or will it allows people to connect to VATSIM or IVAO?

Just examples, just saying, the grass is not always greener in the other side...

Being pessimistic are we? I do not get why people are beating MS down for this, what are people afraid of? You should be grateful about being given choices and a selection of flight sim games. Each to his or her own.

Personally I don’t care about SID, STARS, ACARDS, VATSIM, IVAO etc. I want to fly, I want to feel immersed and I like what I am seeing. We might have all those things, you don’t know either.

I want to enjoy flying without all the hassle of the ESP engine. Just look at all the topics about P3D, issues, crashes and performance problems on high end systems.

First I am not being pessimistic, I am being realistic all simulators have pro and cons, and so far we know very little about this new sim.

Fine, that is your position however there are many others that do care about these things, bottom line people will use the simulator that fulfill their own needs, yours seem to be quite simple (eye candy), however others users want to have a simulator that covers more than just flying.

I am just expressing my opinion based on my experience.
