July 4, 20196 yr Commercial Member On my system: I do not have the flashes. I am in windowed mode. I am in the VC. I have tooltips enabled. I do not run as admin. I do not have "Disable Fullscreen Optimisation" checked in P3D v4 Properties Compatibility. Perhaps something else is the real cause of the issue? July 4, 20196 yr Commercial Member I am running 1903. Has the GPU defaults been set? A lot of problems have been resolved on Nvidias doing this: In the Nvidia Control Panel 3D section you have the Restore button. If that's greyed out make an arbitrary setting and then use the Restore Apply button. I've had guys say it won't matter as they just installed a new driver and cleaned etc. But the forced reset cured the issue. This makes a setting elsewhere that can be fooled by updates. So in short I have no idea what the issue is or if the Nvidia Restore will cure it. Takes a few seconds to try out the precaution. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
July 4, 20196 yr Commercial Member ...incidentally while checking out those settings for the Nvidia CP, in the 3D section there are the Global and the P3D profile settings. P3D is a desktop window even when fullscreen, so it responds to global settings. Do not change your global settings for P3D, make P3D specific settings in the P3D profile, Program Settings Tab. Least problems are experienced that way. Edited July 4, 20196 yr by SteveW Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
July 4, 20196 yr I see I'm not alone. After a complete re-install of Window 10 (1903) and P3D4.5HF I'm also suffering from these black flashes. Currently I suspect the mouse/driver ... being responsible. If I dont'move the mouse it seems not to happen. When I move the mouse it happens sometimes(!) directly during the movement or just a bit later. But it is difficult to say if it really correlates. July 4, 20196 yr Commercial Member Crumbs. Sounds like a discussion in the ilk of the UIAutomation problems in FSX manifested with flashing instead of crashing. Something else came to mind regarding those NCP settings: Do not venture into the GPU settings, P3D profile when the equivalent setting is available in P3D itself. So as a precaution use whatever setting is in P3D and only then venture to invoke things that can't be done with P3D settings alone. For example in any game we might set an AA mode, and we might innocently attempt to set the same mode in the GPU Profile to see if it is better. It won't be any better since it's the same amount of AA (or whatever it is the setting we chose). But it may be wrong in-game because it's not the game's implementation of the setting. The game may choose the GPU mode but also may rearrange the way it does things for that mode, but is doesn't do when you force the external modes and the outcome is not as expected. July 4, 20196 yr Commercial Member I have tried a lot of settings and features but no flashes. Latest versions everything, stock P3D. The way I can get a black pane momentarily is if I grab a corner of the window with the mouse and drop it. A resize event does that. July 4, 20196 yr There is no black flash problem in windowed mode, only in full screen since last 1903 maybe an hotfix broke the fact that when you tick disable full screen activation the problem will go but the next time you will start p3d you will need to tick another time this setting, before windows HF but i dont know which it wasn’t need to redo this i have actually the black flash problem Frédéric Giraud
July 5, 20196 yr I had the flickering in full screen mode and enabling triple buffering with vsync enabled fixed it.
July 5, 20196 yr Commercial Member In fullscreen, with Unlimited + VSync = Off allows greater than the refresh rate of the monitor, in which case you might see flicker at any time the fps goes over the monitor frequency, or when a tooltip hint pops up. You should be using VSync = On anyway. On some systems in fullscreen with locked fps there is an issue that may manifest itself as a black flash or the menu text vanishes momentarily. That's the problem. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
July 5, 20196 yr Commercial Member Just found and fixed the problem on a PC with the flashes! No need for disable enhanced fullscreen. Right click on desktop, bring up Nvidia Control Panel. 3D settings. Make changes to the global profile, Apply. Now press the restore and apply. Do the same for P3D profile and FSX profile. July 5, 20196 yr Commercial Member Yes, was just typing that the problem reappeared perhaps less severe. There could be another thing in the mix. It is looking like rather than the latest build of Windows but could be something comes with that as an update to it. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
