As you say, it’s decent value for $20. Bought the 737 and 777 (why??) as well in the sale, L1011 is my favourite of the 3.

Just Flight has also developed this plane (the L1011) and has a P3D v4 version, so the type is actually well represented.

For 757, there’s the QW version as well.

Captain sim 757 is actually pretty good. It’s not the equivalent of a PMDG, but if you can get it for $20.20 that’s a decent deal. I paid full price on release. Why? Well, I like the plane and was missing flying it.

if you’re serious about piloting a sim 757, i’d actually suggest turning to the dark side and flying the Flightfactor version in X-plane - it’s one Boeing type that doesn’t have a super strong contender on the ESP platform.

I've been at this since flight simming began and to be honest, I've never had a CS plane in the past where there wasn't some sort of unresolved bug or undeveloped/under developed features. They don't seem to really stack up when compared to the likes of Aerosoft, TFDi, QualityWings, PMDG and even iFly, especially at the prices they're commanding for their products. It's unfortunate because they've had years to hone their skills. I'd really like to see them step up as a front runner.

It’s a shame because they clearly have a lot of talent. Their aircraft models have always been excellent. They also usually have no shortage of liveries. But they always seem to miss the mark. The 757 is the closest they’ve come to getting it right but even it falls short. I passed on the sale for this knowing it would have the typical kinds of issues you get from Captain Sim.

What about Tom's free L1011  ?   It's not as complex, but is it a decent alternative for P3D (or FSX?)

Thomas Ruth L1011 he's referring to.

The main problem is that the VC is a DC-10 cockpit and not a L1011 cockpit. Thomas used the DC-10 cockpit he used in his DC-10 freeware and just slapped a L1011 exterior. Sometimes a redistributor uses a 727 cockpit or a 747 2d panel. I would only ever used Thomas's 727 and DC-10 personally. And the switch sounds do not work in P3D v4 as the sound gauge is 32 bit.

OK.

I guess I'm not that picky as I love to fly this model.  I guess it's the eye candy value for me more than authenticism with this one.  After reading all the issues with Capt's L1011 and considering it's $50

Maybe if Capt's L1011 goes on sale again I'll grab it.

I have been making flights on CS L1011 II v1.004 for last couple of days. I can tell you one can fly it by the book. I followed all pilots and FE preflight, flight and securing steps and i could replicate everything exactly as in the RW L1011 manuals. All the systems (APU, ECS, Hydraulics, Electrics, Fire Control Center and Fuel Management) behave as described in RW books. To program INS you need to follow right sequence. With V1 Gauge available here in library you really get an immersion.

The visual model, especially night lighting is great.

The only, only one problem i found against RW systems description is Diff preassure reaching almost limits when in final stage of a climb. You get an alert on an annuciator. When a/c levels off at cruise level the diff stabilizes in yellow range and ECS alert disappears.

BTW, if you keep your N1 in proper regime on all stages of climb you will hardly get to 350 at MTOW. And if you use proper N1 for current altimeter and temp on your dep. airport you will perfectly keep V2 + 10 at 12-15 climb angle. Its just a comment to all this FDE discussion here...
