Thanks for all your work, Shack.

I am as stoked as anyone here about the new sim, but I'm also interested in comparing it to what I have right now. So I made some ortho of this location for P3D v5, here are the shots:

So how does MSFS shape up? I think the ortho quality is similar to my ZL17 GO tile. You'll notice that I have no objects over the ortho, which makes a difference when I'm coming in to land. And of course, I had to actually make this, as opposed to just having it there in the sim.

Still, it's interesting to see how the look of the two platforms compares. I think P3D v5 ortho is competitive for high altitude flying and for use in areas which have no need for autogen, like the desert shot shown earlier. It's not even close to being as good anywhere where the 3D imagery comes into play.

Too bad the NDA is still in place. I could make tons of XP11 vs P3D vs MFS comparison video.

Sure, and I'd be interested to see if if you did. It would need to be done showing all sims to their best potential, which would mean ortho with X-PLane and P3D (both sims obviously look far worse than MSFS in their standard forms).

I think overall, MSFS is going to look a whole lot better than P3D even with everything I can do to tweak LM's sim. There's a lot of shots that Shack has made here that I could not possibly come close to replicating in P3D. There are others, however, where it's basically just ortho so they'd be fairly similar, weather aside.

Speaking of weather, I do like TrueSky (shown here), but in the screencaps the MSFS clouds look better.

Make them now and release as soon as NDA is lifted?

I'm not 100% sure, but if I had to guess, somewhere in the Phoenix area, Arizona.

That wouldn't make for a very fair comparison would it? The fair comparison would be the $60 MSFS versus the $60 XP11 or P3D, with all the settings on max.

If you're talking about visual appearance, that would be pretty pointless, wouldn't it? We all know already that MSFS looks far, far better in a default vs default comparison.

What I suggest is more relevant because very few people fly default P3D, unless they're really fond of 1990s-style graphics for some reason. P3D is designed to be flown with addons, hence LM making very little effort to improve the underlying landclass scenery over the past 9 years or so.

I understand ... and yes, it'll be interesting to see how a $60 MSFS installation stands out against one that has (multiple) hundreds worth of addons. My guess is we might be positively surprised. And I bet those issues with bridges and another few minor snags might get solved in due time.

For most of us another main question probably is though "how does it fly" ... does it feel realistic or does it feel like a toy.

The only comparison worth its salt is FS20 in its birth suit to a P3D fully clad with addon clothes because, as a simmer, this is the choice we have to make right now.

And from what we have seen, FS20 wins on the visuals and the yellowish sun set/rise few posts above won’t say the contrary.  Now how does it fly is indeed as important. A sim is a whole.  We got good early short feedbacks from some trustful testers but it is still less documented than the visuals.
