VR Inclusion in MSFS

Say that again ? You want to restrict this FS20 thread to people praising VR  ? Not likely.

If you read the first two threads then u knew that I was looking for people who also want VR in Release 1 of MSFS2020. That is the reason I opened this thread. I will not restrict anything. But I will chime also if flight simmers a posting "useless" or other stuff which this thread wasn´t setup for. No harm.....we all have our passion and everyone is welcome as long if it is suefull and in the line with the rules. Regards Marcus

I want VR in MSFS just as much as you do, but that doesn't mean I can't express valid arguments as to why VR is not mainstream in this supposedly VR only thread.

That sounds good to me. Al clear now. Unfortunatly a lot of forum users posts also useless things and simply don´t read the thread topics.......Then things ran out of control.....Thanks for clarifying

The Steam stats are not a good indicator. I have a few VR headsets and most of the time they're not hooked up to my PC. My PC is often on and logged into Steam though. I think this would be recorded as a user without a VR headset.

The Navigraph flight sim user survey seems like a more reliable source of data. There were 15k respondents, so a reasonable sample size.

https://download.navigraph.com/docs/navigraph-flightsim-community-survey-2018-final.pdf

In 2018, 11% of flight simmers who answered own a VR headset for flight simulation. (Page 73)

Hence why they didn't say no to VR, they only said it is not one of the things that will be on release.

However since they are a business, no matter how many praises they send towards "simmers" and how actually this is really a simulator, they'll want to look at numbers which are not based in the flight sim community. Hence why i mentioned the Steam hardware survey, considering they have millions of active users every day i assume that those numbers are much higher than 15k as well. That was my point

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

To be clear, this is not a VR support topic only. This is a discussion concerning its inclusion in MSFS.

Thank you.

Also disappointed, but my P3D/DCS/XP11 installations won`t go anywhere, therefore I think I will be able to enjoy the new sim until VR is offered either by MS or by a third-party such as Flyinside.

I think the fact that ALL serious flight-simulators currently support VR natively speaks volumes about the importance and potential of this technology for our niche hobby...

Not all.  There a lot more serious simmers than VR users, and not even all "Serious Simmers" use VR.

I'm not against VR but it has a ways to go before it can become mainstream.  Hopefully Microsoft has something in mind.

Read what I wrote carefuly...I said simulators and not simmers. By that I mean that DCS, P3D, XP11, IL2, AF2...all support VR natively.

Oh, sorry, you're right. 🙂

Something about the term being hyphenated that threw me off.

I can't say I get this. For example, surely 0% of the non-flight sim community own flight yokes? Should they not support those also?

You have to look at what current flight sim users want. The best data we have right now would indicate that 10% of flight sim enthusiasts use VR.

MS seem keen to get flight sim enthusiasts on board, so I am surprised at the VR decision.

More like 5%.  Look at several surveys, don't just take the maximum.

That's fair, but which surveys? The Navigraph December 2018 is the biggest and most recent I know of.

VR adoption is increasing month to month. Another older than a year doesn't tell us much.

I'd be shocked if it doesn't come eventually, but doing it right is important.

To me, it's not a "must be there on release or I'm gonna freak out" feature. This, like all games released these days will be a evolving project.

Exactly.  Because if they just slap something together rather than doing it right, a lot of first time VR users will be put off the technology.

Yes exactly. As i said, NO VR means NO immersion to me. Sitting at my desk does not give me that "flying" feeling as being in there. Maybe other flightsimmers, who don´t use VR now, should try it! Track IR....I am laughing about it since I am in the cockpit, panning around my had and have a 3d Cockpit surrounding me. I prior also thought "it could not be that interesting and super" UNTILL I took a junp, bought it and got in there. So.....definitly al Flightsimmers SHOULD try. It is not that expencive anymore AND....visuals become secondary........believe me! Immersion hits visuals. That is why a 6DOF simulator is the absolute kick. The visuals aren´t even there! It is the immersion.

Exactly !!!!!   Same here, immersion hits visuals,it is really a game changer.
