We know far more about the new sim than just scenery. But ok.

Some people can't educate themselves before posting to make sure they actually know what they're talking about or just ignore simple facts because it suits their opinion better. Some of the recent comments in this thread are a prime example of that and why it's annoying sometimes to follow MSFS discussions. Just ignore it.

I always bake hand-made cookies on the weekend. Just not as many as I once did when I was in apartment and had neighbors that would smell them and come by to scarf the majority........

Now I have a dog to do that......

No! No! No!  Work on it started over 5 years ago and over 200 people are working on it.  Soon, Microsoft will bring on some experts/non-experts in the community to be Alpha/Beta testers.  Microsoft did this with Windows and Office too.  There is no way there will be flaws requiring hot fixes with all that testing and expertise.... (tongue in cheek).

He says as he's working through Windows 10 flaws! 🙂    Me too! 🙂

All kidding aside, Microsoft is taking MSFS into a new direction.  And who's to say that Lockheed/Martin doesn't latch on to this new technology as well.  We forget that P3D is professional environmental simulation platform specifically targeted to government, military, and industry applications.  That just happens to run our favorite flight simulator programs out of the box is a secondary mission for P3D and a matter of happenstance.  Given what Microsoft is portraying in their new MSFS 2020 program, I easily see P3D wanting to incorporate this technology in some manner.

For example, imagine city/state disaster/emergency services planning using a real-life, accurate, 3-D modeling of buildings, houses, terrain, obstacles and even trees.  Imagine what that means for law enforcement, EMS operations including EMS helicopter ops, etc. The military applications are obvious.  This environment is what P3D was intended for.

I see Lockheed/Martin moving towards and perhaps adopting the visual/environmental technology Microsoft is displaying in MSFS 2020.  Whether they go so far as to incorporate the changes to the flight modeling and its affect on flight simulator addons is conjecture at this point.  But I would not be surprised if we are all in for a wholesale change in our flight simulator lives in the next few years regardless of whether you're using P3D or moving to MSFS 2020.

If this sim doesn't stand up to the hype, you're going to have to make those brownies by the truckload.

I felt like it was worth quoting this post I made over a year ago in the Prepar3D forum regarding my disillusionment with Lockheed Martin's snail paced development progress. I never could have imagined that 9 months later I would see a trailer for a flight simulator that would essentially embrace all of the things I listed in that particular post.

I've been thinking/saying pretty much the same thing for the past couple of years, so it's refreshing to hear it from someone else too.  I'm no fan of LM, never was, but they were really the only game in town when I jumped back into simming, so I dove in.  A defense contractor has no clue how to respond to the needs of the P3D community-  it just doesn't work, like putting a square peg in a triangular hole.  On the other hand, Laminar Research seemed to be more responsive and adaptive as X-plane has advanced through the years.  However, they've also shown that they don't hear what the community wants, or they're simply oblivious.  Adam, in my opinion, is way out of tune with what users want, so this is another bottleneck that we've had to contend with.  Both sims had so much potential...

I think Microsoft keyed in on this really early and decided that there was a need for a new platform.  Out of the box, at least visually, this sim will do things that are simply impossible on the other platforms unless some MIRACULOUS developments take place in the next few months.

I'm heavily-invested in P3D, but switched over to X-plane a few months ago after long-awaited environmental tweaking tools that could make P3D look somewhat realistic failed to materialize or work properly.  X-plane just looks spectacular despite the limitations of weather and lack of good seasons.  However, because X-plane has such lousy weather and no seasons, it does get boring.  But, I can't go back to P3D and that ugly world.  I've tried- I just cant.

So, here we are, all waiting with baited breath for what Microsoft offers, and I'm of the persuasion that they've filled in many of these gaps, but they're not telling us about all of the details.  This is still in the early stages of development, and I believe that the initial release will have a lot of the basic things the community has been asking for.  Otherwise, we end up with 3 "incomplete" sims, which is pointless, and it seems like Microsoft has thrown a lot of money into this.

I'm all-in.  I hope I get selected for the beta, and I'll be sure to follow this every step of the way until release day.  I'm ready to move on beyond the limitations and frustrations associated with flying P3D and X-plane.

The company that is still stumbling to get Windows 10 to work correctly, is going to make the perfect sim with no bugs... LOL. That's hysterical.

On the other hand, LM has struggled to get fighter jets to work properly...

Don't worry it will not meet everybody`s expectation.
