Partnership Announcement - ICON

Partner Visit – ICON

Icon-visist-1.jpg

Last Monday (11/18/19) I visited the Icon headquarters in sunny California. During my visit I had the opportunity to help fine tune the Icon A5 with a few of their test pilots. As the plane already matched the POH (Pilot’s operating handbook) we spent the majority of our time reviewing some specific areas like stall mechanics, water landings/takeoffs, the engine’s detailed power curve, handling, and response to control surface movement.

Though this was a short trip, I had such a great time working with the team at Icon. The Icon A5 is such an amazing aircraft with great performance, security, and handling. It was great to show the simulation to the Icon crew, and to hear the test pilots say how happy they were with the simulation of the aircraft.

Another partner update coming soon!

I wasn't expecting any updates today. Nice!

And they are running it on a laptop. 😲 It seems we won't need a supercomputer afterall.

Very nice I love the way they interact with the community. You go ASOBO and MS 🙂 Well a gaming laptop I would think, but still cool! Unless there was a best of a machine underneath the table. Me thinks it not running on laptop as it looks like code on the screen, but I have no idea!

The joystick seems to be plugged to the laptop.

Looks like it is running off of the laptop! At the very least the joystick is wired to the laptop

True. Means that nearly everyone can run MSFS.

But don't forget at what detail level it is being run on the laptop:

I hope it is running on the laptop, gaming one or not. Any chance we will get the Icon 5 MS Flight training tutorial or mission when we fly through the balloons ( yes balloons ), and out to the cruise ship, or something similar? I hope sometime in the future they show the Icon 5 landing and taking off on the water. I want to see what it looks like 🙂 BTW, in the SDK info they provided they said when we get access to it we can work on planes, scenery, and missions. Whenever that is for the general public?

I would love to see how balloons react in this sim!

Can anyone zoom in and see what the text on the screen says? Get on it Sherlock Holmes 🙂 Be funny if it said, "If you can read this, your too close", like the bumper stickers!

Well he is using my Thrustmaster 16000m ( I have the HOTAS setup with throttle too ) so that's a check for me 🙂 Yes I now all of them should work!

I think that's the auxiliary maths co-processor to help with the aerodynamics calculations.

Waterlandings confirmed!

It's interesting that they are revisiting this aircraft in such detail instead of just porting over the Microsoft Flight version, which was already a good model. Especially since it's probably going to be the starter aircraft in tutorials and easier/arcade missions, like the Ultralight.

The screen looks just like a game with dials on the screen like racing game on dear it is a game, I don't fly like that.
