I'm still trying to figure out how Google became the authority on tree height.

It’s not the ultimate authority (although, the height would be pretty darn accurate considering it is photogrammetry).  That is why I also included MSFS2020’s original NYC photo for comparison.  It’s not a dealbreaker, but should be fixed.  I was just kindly pointing it out to the team since they do follow these forums.

The majority of buildings lining Central Park are 15-20 story buildings.  Deciduous trees simply do not get that tall.  Hell, the only coniferous trees that get that tall are the giant sequoias or red woods in the PNW.

Honestly they look fine

Really? Keep encouraging their mediocrity and it's what we'll end up with.

It is a deal breaker for me... If FS2020 has comically oversized trees, then Asobo please put in an option where I can turn off your comically oversized autogen trees completely....  2 steps forward, 1 step back....So incredibly disappointing!!!

Haha, a flare for the dramatic!

I'm sure they'll address the issue and calm the pitter patter of our hearts.

Trying to understand if you are a troll or just genuinely incapable of differentiating fantasy from reality?

Don't count on it.

They have already invested effort into these homogeneously shaped and comically oversized FSX style "autogen" trees, presumably so that every leaf can be shown in "high fidelity".

They must have plenty of tree height data (from photogrammetry sources or otherwise) yet they are incapable of correctly sizing the trees in an official video?

I hope Asobo can clear up this issue in their next update, because frankly, they seem to have dropped the ball.

Such a shame!

When's the next 'Development/Insider Update' due?
After this thread, I've a feeling we may be seeing a post that starts with "If a tree falls in a forest..."

ROAR!

I dont think four posts in a row on the subject was enough. We don't really have a good sense of how you feel. Can you tell us more?

When you say "comically" oversized, do mean "haha" like a clown funny?

What else do you think Asobo has done in aggressively mediocre fashion? You must have a lot of thoughts about the UI.

Yes, comically oversized... As if produced by a clown for the sake of laughter, spot on!

actualy is a footage about winter and perhaps season. Ils not a footage about tree. Con and pro for autogen vs blob in Naples but we are in january not at end release.

I agree. This footage is to highlight the implementation of procedural snow.

We've known about the trees (including the ones applied over photogrammetry) for a while, no doubt the issues with them will be ironed out in due course.

The take away is if MS want dynamic seasons (which it appears they do) they have to implement a wide range of procedural trees otherwise, as mentioned, they will never look right. Leaves will never fall, colours will never change etc. Given that, the (no doubt temporary) use of pines in this example seems entirely logical, if not very realistic.

Neither the sim nor Google is reality... your point?

Sure, I understand it's a difficult concept for you, but the photogrammetric trees and buildings in Google are correctly scaled relative to each other.   Go to NYC (or look at a picture of the same scene) and you will see that the scale of the "autogen" trees posted by the OP is a fantasy and do not match reality.  Got it now?
