I think this a simple question but...

W10 only

I think it's safe to say that since Windows 7 is end-of-life that it won't be supported.

It will rely on technologies and features that are only available in Windows 10, so that's a no.

I don't think a definitive answer to the question "will it run under Win 7?"  will exist until it releases in its final form.

It'll pretty clearly not be officially supported, but lots of other software that's not officially supported in Vista/Win 7/Win 8 still runs OK.

The only facts we know that you must be running Windows 10 to be included in the insider program.

I can state unequivocally that it will not run in Win7, period. If for no other reason that Win7 does not support DX11, which is absolutely required, it is a complete non-starter.

So, if I've got this right, MSFS won't run in W7. Is that correct?

I'm signed up in the insider program, and can login and I'm still running Win. 7.

You haven't tried to launch the installer from the Insider Hub, right?

I can login to the Insider website from this Win7 development computer, but cannot download and install the Insider Hub program, which is Step 1 in the process of getting the Alpha installed.

Fortunately for me, my flight sim test computer is Win 10!

That's incorrect, as it DX11 is the highest support graphic api that Win 7 runs on.

It does not support DX12 if that's needed and what your referring to.

I know all the arguments, but if you are still on W7, just upgrade already.

W10 is just as good of an operating system at this point. This reminds me of all the FSX users who stuck with XP and trashed W7 for so many years.

Thanks for all the input guys. It looks to me like, at this time, there is still no definitive answer. Time will tell..........This topic can be closed..........Doug

I was the world's second biggest fan of Win7. FInally had to bite the bullet and upgrade to Win10 on my core dev PC about a year ago, mainly because I needed Edge browser running fully native. Tried to find excuses as to why Win10 was worse- call it a bit of mSparksism if you like. None of what I came up with was based on fact, but it made me feel better, as if I was the loan voice of authority and all others were just plain wrong.

Win7 lives on in various virtual machines that I still have to run, but Win10, once you get over the differences, is at least as stable and, although I am loathed to admit for all the wrong reasons, better.

Or as stated above, just upgrade already.

And when do you expect to get the Tech Alpha.
